Silly Blog Spam

no_spamOne of the downfalls of moving my blog to WordPress is that WP is more frequently subject to silly spammers. I have had to install six anti-spam plugins (program enhancements) that trap that crap. Then all I have to do is delete it. But man, there is a lot of it! From 20 to 40 attempts each day to add comments on many of my posts, that if I did not set all comments to moderation and have these plugins installed, these spam messages would appear.

What annoys me…

Sweet Early Spring Tease

This happens every year… we get a few nice days in a row with sunny, warm weather, then it gets cold for a few more weeks until Spring happens for real. However, yesterday it was sunny and reached 61F (16C). So what’s a biker to do?

Well, silly, if you have to ask…, yesterday I…

Graciously Declining a Gay Wedding Invitation

I have mentioned before that my fiance and I are not fans of weddings in general — nothing to do with the nuptials being for opposite-sex or same-sex partners. Once again, though, a friend sent me a formal invitation to his same-sex wedding to his partner of three years. I like the guy a lot, and think his partner is very nice (though I don’t really know him), but was again faced with the dilemma on how to decline the invitation since we didn’t want to go.

Dodged the Bullet

Most of my readers know that I live in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. But what they do not understand is how dynamic our weather is, compared with other locations in the U.S. or other countries.

Cowboy Booted G-Man

There is hope! I tell ‘ya, hope that a G-Man from the top law enforcement agency in the United States that at least one of them is interested in wearing cowboy boots! See for yourself from my stat viewer logs:
FBIcowboybootsI work with a bunch of G-men and G-women in Washington, DC, and rarely, if ever, see any men in cowboy boots at work. Some may choose to wear them casually, but there is hope that perhaps at least one may wear boots with a suit to the office.

Why not?

Pull on the correct socks, not worrying about their color (because you can’t see them), and be comfortably booted all day. Woo-hoo, what a concept!

Cowboy boots with dress slacks over them look the same as shoes, but not nearly as dorky as shoes do. Boots in subdued colors such as black, black cherry, or brown, go just fine with dress clothes. Worn by a professional, they demonstrate that he is his own man and does not fear what others may say — probably because no one says anything at all about a guy who wears boots to the office.

Life is short: man-up and wear boots to work!

Lucchese Boot Co. Is Nuts

Lucmidbrownfr09Lucchese Boot Company announced through its vendors that its prices were going up dramatically on March 1. Many vendors sent out last-minute appeals for sales before the price increase took effect.

I had my eye on a particular pair of Lucchese boots, so I inquired via a reputable vendor what the cost would be to buy them with some minor customizations.

The reply startled me.
