Merry Christmas to my blog visitors! This year, our Christmas is quite different. For the past 15 years, we have devoted Christmas to taking care of my Spouse’s mother. Since she passed away in May, this year sets a different tone for the holiday. What are we doing?
Last night (Friday evening), I was at a sister’s house for our usual every-Friday-night family dinner. My large family makes it a priority to get together for dinner once a week, as best we can, forgiving absences for being away travel, distance, illness, or other allowable reasons.
My Spouse rarely goes to these dinners with me because…
Hi, this is J, BHD’s brother. I have a habit, though long delayed, in popping in on his blog and blowing it up with commentary and observations.
I have been rather absent on this blog for a long time. I have had other things going on in my life. Also, I really don’t like social media and refuse to join Facebook, send tweets, or use other platforms like Instagram. Keeping off social media (even blogs) keeps me in my happy place.
But for my brother, I made an exception to write again on his blog. My recent visit with him was
Yep, August 16 came and went. I gave myself a present — took the day off work. At home, the spouse did his usual thing: gave me a card, a rose from our garden, a kiss and a hug, then asked “what’s for breakfast?” (He really doesn’t celebrate or care for birthdays, even “milestone” days like this day was for me.)
But before we sat down for breakfast, the doorbell rang. “Who’s that?” demanded the Spouse. Well, ’twas another surprise. Out on the lawn there rose such a clatter that…
I still have access to your blog, so I hijacked it today to wish the real best half of the egg that split that made the two of us — a very happy birthday.
You can only have such a day if you
Fa bene means, “oh well.” Today, Sunday 14 August, I would have been arriving at Fuimicino Airport in Rome, Italy. Yep, I had a trip planned for quite a while to see a man. My spouse even approved being left behind while I went tootin’ off to see this guy.
What? Who? …
I wrote on this blog yesterday that our Christmas day began on a negative with a rant by a priest in church against our marriage, but we made the day better while trying to put the bad start behind us.
I also said that my twin brother became quite angry. I sat down with him later in the day to ask him…

Hi there, this is J, BHD’s twin brother. I hijacked his blog to write about my brother. (He hates this, but I am bigger than he is!)
My wife and I decided to “drop in” right before Thanksgiving. I needed a big dose of my brother and our family to get me back to the man I want to be for my wife… thoughtful and not distracted by heavy thoughts.
For the 43rd year in a row, I continued a tradition of Christmas caroling with friends I have been caroling with since Junior High school. And best yet, my twin brother…
We had another spectacular “no senior is lonely” Feastival yesterday, with 105 guests, 15 family, and a few special guests to greet visitors, including a U.S. Senator, who I knew was coming but let the others be surprised.
The weather was super-fantastic, with pleasantly warm temperatures and sunny skies. I was thankful for the good weather, in particular, because we were able to use our decks for additional space for crowds to spill out when the house got too crowded.
My twin brother…
