Silly Blog Spam

no_spamOne of the downfalls of moving my blog to WordPress is that WP is more frequently subject to silly spammers. I have had to install six anti-spam plugins (program enhancements) that trap that crap. Then all I have to do is delete it. But man, there is a lot of it! From 20 to 40 attempts each day to add comments on many of my posts, that if I did not set all comments to moderation and have these plugins installed, these spam messages would appear.

What annoys me…

…is that most of these messages try to embed links. I betcha most of the links go to nefarious websites that if visited, would introduce malware, spyware, and other nasty stuff.

Most people are not aware that most (if not all) spam is automated. Bad programs troll the web and look for vulnerable sites — websites, blogs, and social media sites (like YouTube) that allow third-party posting (usually comments) without moderation are frequent victims. That’s why I always recommend that a human moderate all comments on these sites so you can control what appears — both to remove spam and delete inappropriate or hateful comments (occasionally happens to me on my YouTube account.)

Rest easy, readers, I diligently protect you from these pests. I read and moderate every comment that comes in. That way, if my anti-spam plugins miss something (rarely happens), I have the ultimate final say in what appears on this blog and its comments sections.

The only links I post are to my own website, other posts on this blog, and to known, spyware-free sites.

Here are some recent examples of silly spam (edited to remove nefarious links):

As a fellow blogger, i noticed you weren’t using your site to its full money making potential. If you want, I could help you get some affiliate programs you can use to make more money. Just check out … [Link removed]

BHD note: I never engage in revenue-enhancement for this blog or my website. No ads, no “watch this for 15 seconds and then see…” kinda crap. I hate that when I visit some other blogs, websites, or YouTube videos and will NOT subject my visitors to any advertising. Whatever revenue these activities produce is so minimal anyway that it isn’t worth it to me to aggravate my visitors.

BHD note: yeah, right. And I have a bridge in Sydney that I can sell you. Act now and I’ll throw in a bridge in Arizona, too.

You need to take component in a contest for among the best blogs on the web. I will recommend this webpage!

BHD note: obvious use of automated translator that produces content that makes no sense.

I like this web blog very much, Its a rattling nice situation to read and obtain info.

BHD note: what is a “rattling nice situation?” Silly, again.

There is noticeably a bundle to know about this. I assume you created specific nice points in features also.

BHD note: while every word is spelled correctly, the combination of these words does not make sense.

Life is short: blogging requires diligence and active monitoring.
