All Leather Riding

Tuesday was a pleasantly cool, dry Autumn day — perfect leather weather!

After I rode home from work at noon, instead of taking a nap, I felt energized to go for a ride to view my home state’s autumn. My spouse was busy studying through an on-line course in which he has enrolled so I didn’t want to hang around home and make noise if I were not napping.

I opened my biker leather gear closet and …

Honored to Ride

FCRide4Yesterday, a memorial motorcycle ride was held in honor of my home jurisdiction’s (county) former Fire Chief. He retired from my home jurisdiction and became the Fire Chief in another location, but died in April of this year as a result of long-term effects of Parkinson’s Disease.

I was honored to pull on my firefighter boots…

Autumn Riding

Rideautumncopright2013Of the four seasons, autumn is my favorite. Crisp, sunny, dry days of cooler “leather weather.” Yep, I have broken out the leather jeans and my regular biker gear and am wearing them every day — even when I am not riding my Harley. Nothin’ like the cool, comfortable feel of leather … shirts, pants, jackets, and boots (of course!)

My Harley required repair last week, but it was fixed quickly and I returned to riding on Friday. And Saturday. And Sunday. And Monday… And…

Longest Ride of the Season

Posted: 6:00pm Sunday, September 15, 2013.

All week, I worked to clear my Sunday to be totally free of chores and other things I do to look after my senior pals. I did my visits, trips to the grocery stores, and worked on home maintenance all week, including all day yesterday.

Today (Sunday) I pulled on my biker leathers, tall boots, and gave myself a treat —

Non-Cop Motorcycle Escort

My spouse has not driven his own car for some 18 months due to a restriction placed upon him by his physician. His long-term illness caused severe dizzy spells that would occur without warning. He could not be behind the wheel of a car if one of those severe spells happened, or risk death of himself and others.

But his doc evaluated his condition again and authorized my spouse to drive if he wanted to since my spouse has been “spell-free” for over three months. So we planned a “re-orientation to driving” event of our own.

Darwin-Award Contenders on Motorcycles

I drove (a cage) up to Pittsburgh and back this weekend, when my spouse and I returned his mother to her home after visiting with us for a week.

While driving, both on the interstate and around her home town, I couldn’t help but notice guys on motorcycles. After all, it is summer!

Trouble is, most men on motorcycles were not bikers, but were…

Leather in August? No Sweat!

Man, the weather in my neck of the woods has been weird… three heat waves (defined as at least three days or longer of temperatures in the mid-90s [35C] with dewpoints in the 70s [24C]) … right during the time when The Spouse and I were moving tons (literally) of rocks to build a backyard waterfall, pond, and patio.

But come this past Sunday, a cool breeze heralded an oncoming cold front, lowering air temperatures to the 70s (24C) and dewpoints a refreshing 53F (12C), making it feel dry and cool. Certainly not the “dog days of summer!”

Time to LEATHER UP!…

Bike-napped by a Motorcop

Monday was a great day, weather-wise. Brilliant sunshine, low humidity, temperature just right — 82F (28C) — when I was leaving work. As I was mounting my Harley in the parking garage, I was ticking off in my head a list of things that I had to do when I got home. Work on the patio. Call some senior pals to check in with them. Prepare dinner for my spouse and me. Pay some bills. Routine stuff — none of which included motorcycling.

As I was exiting the parking garage, I saw a guy on a Harley Ultra who seemed to be waiting for me. He gave me a big grin and said,
