Excuse Me, Officer?

I was out riding my Harley the other day with a young friend who is becoming a more confident motorcycle rider. I was wearing leather breeches and Chippewa Hi-Shine boots, as shown here:
Blackbreeches25When a woman pulled up next to me at a stoplight and said, “Excuse me, officer! Can you…

…tell me where [such-and-such] road is?”

My riding pal was laughing. Funny thing to me is that I knew exactly where she wanted to go (which is unusual for me since I get lost so easily), and gave her directions.

I would have let go and not said anything else, but she replied beyond a thank-you with, “I always support my local police. You guys are the best.”

I couldn’t let her error go… I said, “thanks, I do too. I am a civilian, but know a lot of cops so I’ll give them your regards.”

This woman’s mouth opened as if to try to say something, but the light changed and we had to move on else hold back traffic.

Chipshinelug208Glancing over, I could tell that my new riding partner was continuing to laugh hysterically.

When we stopped again, my friend asked, “where can I get a pair of those boots!???”

Now it was my turn to laugh. I referred him to the store where I bought these boots.

More photos of this pair of boots (and leathers) are on my website, here.

Life is short: wear boots (but don’t pretend to be a cop when you’re not.)

  1. It seemed obvious to her that you are a very authoritative rider. Add to that your ‘police style’ Harley, your leathers and boots and you appeared to be a member of the local motorcop brigade. I can understand the motorist’s mistake. Your YouTube film clips ‘show you off’ well. It’s good the motorist was pleased with you and also felt the need to display support for the police. She’ll probably remember you for a long while and the favorable impression you made on her.

Just a thought: did you ever consider becoming a police officer? Captain BHD has a nice sound to it.
