How Boot Leathers Wear

Lucphython01From time to time, I look back at the great comments and suggestions received on my post titled, “Not Your Ordinary Gay Guy’s Blog” and find reminders of subjects to write about. Thanks to Stephen who said,

I would welcome further commentary on, well…boots! For example, the qualities of various leathers, how they wear, … how various leathers are treated, and with what for particular purposes.

Okay, I’ll take a stab at it.

Boots — Choosing Quality

Blackjackpython09I sincerely appreciate that several people wrote to me after my blog post titled, “Not the Ordinary Gay Guy’s Blog,” with suggestions about what I can write about. Stephen commented,

You being an authority of choice on all things “boots,” however, I would welcome further commentary on, well … boots! For example, the qualities of various leathers, how they wear, how to care for them, which are appropriate for particular kinds of boots, how different brands are made and how they compare in terms of their specialty niches. How various leathers are treated, and with what for particular purposes.

Of the email that this blog and my website generate, the vast majority of questions are about boots. Over the years of growing my boot collection and wearing boots daily, I have learned a thing or two. Here are some of my experiences and what I have learned about boots that may be of interest to you.

The Week’s Boots

Bouletblack07This is a recap of what boots I wore during the past week, including “boots at work.” That is, for labor I did last weekend, as well as what I wore to my office. Guys and Gals Love the Boots

I’ve been really busy at work, going from meeting to meeting and “doing my thing.” I enjoy having a job that I love to do and for which I am appreciated.
SnakesworkIt was raining yesterday, so I couldn’t ride my Harley for the regular commute. I chose to wear a new pair of Black Jack white python boots. These boots are great — very well-made, pegged soles, and have a solid cowboy boot “clunk” when I walk in them.

As I was going from meeting to meeting yesterday, boots worn with black dress slacks and a white striped dress shirt (no tie, thankfully)…

New Boots for High School

My great nephew began wearing boots to school when he entered high school last year. I had the honor of taking him boot shopping last year, where he picked up two pairs of boots. He also received a new pair of dressy Lucchese boots for Christmas. With three pairs of boots, he has become quite the young “bootman” and seldom wears sneakers any more, except when he plays sports. He thinks boots are cool.

A few weeks ago at a family birthday party, I asked him if he thought he had enough pairs of boots, or if he were interested in buying another pair to wear when school starts this year. His reply…

Cowboy Boots for Motorcycle

Chippitstop02As a “boot aficionado,” owning and wearing hundreds of pairs of boots, and also being an avid motorcyclist (aka “biker”), I see search queries and have received email from time to time from some guys who are looking for recommendations on boots with cowboy style yet are suitable for use when operating a motorcycle.

Most traditional cowboy boots have a smooth leather sole — totally wrong and unsafe for use while operating a motorcycle. Stop at a light where cars have dripped oil on the road… slip slip slip… or try to maneuver a heavyweight bike into a parking lot … slip slip slip… and sometimes, fall.

I am one of those guys who carefully selects his boots — right boots for the right job. Dress cowboy boots for the office — motorcycle boots with good soles for the bike — rugged work boots for construction. Seldom do the “boot functions” work in multiple applications.

I have been pleased to see, however, some boots that can work as a good motorcycle boot as well as a stylish cowboy boot to wear in an office. Here’s my latest discovery–
