As you read in my brother’s blog post yesterday, my spouse had a major medical problem on Saturday which required hospitalization. Here is an update–

Romance Remains
A friend posted a photo on Facebook of some wildflowers that his boyfriend surprised him with. I remarked, “even after 21 years, my spouse still brings me flowers for no specific reason.” I mentioned that to my spouse, and what did I find when I arrived home from work yesterday?

21st Year of Lovin’ My Man
Today, April 25, marks the 21st anniversary of the date that I met the man who fundamentally improved and changed my life. Yep, 21 years ago there was an event called the “March on Washington” for LGBT rights. It was an amazing, life-changing time for me and for the man I married one year and three weeks ago.
Thirty-seven and one-half percent (37.5%) of my life has been spent loving one man. Where have we been? What has become of this relationship?

Outlook: Enrichening or Depressing Experience?
Readers of this blog are aware that my spouse remains ill with an ongoing, persistent, chronic set of physically debilitating conditions caused by an infection that can’t be beat. So far, medical treatment, change of diet, consultation with allied health professionals, and much more have not resolved these problems and he remains in bad shape.
A close friend of mine was asking about him, and said, “I’d find that depressing to deal with day in and day out.”
Like a “glass half full or half empty” outlook,…

Holding My Man
My beloved spouse is still recovering from a relapse of a long-term bout of illness caused by an infection from two microbial organisms transmitted by a tick bite.
It worries me that each evening, I literally have to hold him and guide him to the bathroom and then bedroom, as he is not quite able to walk on his own. But holding him, guiding him, and loving him is not a burden, but my devotion.

How Life Changes When The Spouse Is Always At Home
I have mentioned before that my spouse retired a year ago. He enjoys staying at home while I go off to work each weekday. He enjoys staying at home while I go help my senior pals or visit family on weekends. He enjoys staying at home while I ride my Harley with my buddies.
He enjoys staying at home… always.
How has this affected my life?

Destressing After a Long Week
Man, this past week has felt like it has lasted more days than appear on the calendar. I don’t know about you, but do weeks where a holiday falls on a Monday seem to be longer than those without a holiday?
The week began with ongoing cleanup from a snowstorm, then back to work on Tuesday. Each afternoon when I arrived home…

Intellectual Discussion with My Best Friend
Sunday, my spouse and I did something we love to do on a cold winter’s day… we made ravioli from scratch, and by hand one raviolo at a time.
While my spouse has not been out of the house since November 19 (except for visits to his doctor and twice at an E.R.), the treatment regimen that he is on at least has cleared the bugs from his brain. No more “brain fog” and extreme fatigue, though the joint pain remains severe.
So while he was feeling in good spirits and wanted to spend time with me doing something together, I made pasta dough, and …

PR Dreamin’
I can hardly believe, 19 years ago today, the love of my life and I were on a beach on my very favorite Caribbean island, him shirtless and wearing a Speedo, then later that evening, we enjoyed a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner on la isla del encanto.
Ahhhh… cherish the memories.
Our recollection of that week and that particular day…
