Someone wrote to me recently asking about Laredo Tunica cowboy boots. These boots are made under the Laredo name by the company that makes Dan Post Boots, McRae Industries. (More info here). His question was, “it states “leather-like shaft”. What does that mean? Is the boot shaft 100% leather or only synthetic leather?”
Here is an example of a description of another pair of Laredo boots. I found this description on a boot/shoe aggregator/retailer’s website: Leather foot with lizard print bucklaced wingtip and a thirteen inch leather-like shaft.

Yesterday (Sunday), the advanced weather forecasts were predicting even warmer weather than we had on Saturday. Earlier in the week, I was debating about whether to schedule a group ride for Saturday or Sunday. I’m glad that I listened to my colleagues who are professional meteorologists, as well as my own intuition. Yesterday, instead of warm and bright, we had cold and damp, I mean really damp, and were socked in by thick fog.

I get frustrated sometimes and am frequently puzzled by the large number of men who are directed to my website and this blog when they enter queries about how to dress, particularly with boots. I follow some of their queries to other websites, such as men’s style blogs and forums, or even “yahoo answers” or “wiki how” — all purportedly filled with expertise about what to wear or not wear, how to dress, and whether or not to wear boots, leather clothing, or boots with suits, khakis, or whatnot.
Why the obsessing? Particularly by men? I know that women obsess over that shit, but guys? Really?
My overall feeling (besides puzzlement and pity), seriously, is relief. Why am I relieved?
