Remodeling Accomplished

I said in a post on March 26 that I had lost my mind, but only in the sense that I had bought another house that had gone up for sale by auction. The previous owner had died without a will and the local government auctioned it pretty much for settlement of back taxes and accumulated fees. (Trust me — a LOT of taxes and fees accumulated!)

I followed the spouse’s advice, and hired four hard-working local residents to remodel the house following my plans and directions. Now, in just five weeks…

Saturday Night Pub Crawl With Cops

PubcrawlUsually on Saturday evenings, I settle down with the Spouse and relax. We never go out any more. With his ongoing painful legacy of the long-term illness that he suffered through for three years, he can’t manage going out and he does not have the energy for it.

Also, because I have never been a night-owl, relaxing at home and going to bed early is my preference as well. Except for last night. At the invitation of some friends (all LEOs) visiting from out of town, I joined them for …

What posts of the last 100 (since October 14, 2015) have been most viewed and popular?

Comfortable Boots

BootstorageJan201502For a guy who owns hundreds of pairs of boots, one would think that I would only have boots that are comfortable. Well, mostly that is true, but not for all of them.

Especially now that two things have changed with time: boots age and insoles do not get any softer, and feet age and are not as flexible and tolerant of discomfort as they are when they were young. This is especially true for guys who go from a slim/trim/athletic 120 pounds in their early 20s to … well, middle-age spread. The more weight you carry, the more uncomfortable boots will become.

So here is how this more-than-middle-aged boot wearer deals with boot comfort issues…
