It’s Spring, Right?

A very unwelcome last-gasp of winter visited us on the first day of astronomical Spring here in these parts: a major winter storm. From the hyperventilating of the TV weather weasels remarking about a “record-breaking event!” (pant, pant, pant), even the B-I-C* couldn’t exceed their excitement during his usual early morning twitter shitstorm he’s known for.

Spouse and I took it…

Valuation of Frye Boots

I have received several email messages in the last week from people who found an old pair of Frye Boots at a yard sale, and have said,

I found your website. I would like to know what price to list a pair of old Frye boots on eBay.

Yes, I have a number of pairs of vintage ’70s and ’80s Frye boots and have written about them on this blog, though it has been quite some time since I have done that.

But with my nostalgic postings on both the website and blog, I fear that I may have…

Fundraising, Snuggling, and Twinning

I was delighted to have a very productive Saturday, topped off by calling a successful auction for my VFD’s annual event. Suited and booted in black dressy Lucchese crocodile belly boots, I helped to raise over $26,500 for the fire department’s ongoing needs.

However, as soon as the auction part of the dinner was over, and right before the DJ began playing music for dancing, I bid my farewells. Why? …

You Again?

Yes, it’s me again. That guy who attends meetings of local legislative committee and budget hearings. That guy whose arms are loaded with paper, files, and facts. That guy who is focused and determined to hold elected leaders accountable.

Yep, that guy in those jeans and boots, here again to…

Being The Man and Leader I Am

I mentioned that I recently attended a training event for leaders of motorcycle clubs for Harley riders. There were about 800 people there and it was good to see that well over 25% of them were female. Motorcycle club leadership for Harley riders is less dominated by men, which in my opinion, is a good thing.

With more attention these days about treatment of women and sexual harassment, I can say that in my observation, the men at this event were respectful. There was much less sexual innuendo in the marketing materials and thankfully — for the first time — no scantily-clad bikini-wearing women draped on Harleys for photo ops. Yay! (Personally, I appreciate that effect of the “me too” movement!)

While more inclusive and respectful treatment of women was observed, I regret that…

Bikers: Where Are The Boots?

Last you heard from me, I was on a road trip for a long weekend. I traveled to (location in image to the right). I rode in a buddy’s truck to get there — weather was too cold, windy, and wet and at 500 miles one-way, it was too far to ride my Harley (in a day).

I was there with about 800 bikers from the Midwest and Eastern United States for training. Oh, what us motorcycle club officers have to do…. Anyway, I looked most at the footwear on all these bikers.

Disappointingly, more than 75% of the men and women at this training for leaders of safe riding motorcycle clubs wore…

Boots on Road Trip

Ol’ BHD is on a real old-fashioned road trip, riding in a big ‘ol truck to the midwest USA.

Hopefully, I will write more informative blog material when I’m there.

Life is short: wear boots!
