Bikers: Where Are The Boots?

Last you heard from me, I was on a road trip for a long weekend. I traveled to (location in image to the right). I rode in a buddy’s truck to get there — weather was too cold, windy, and wet and at 500 miles one-way, it was too far to ride my Harley (in a day).

I was there with about 800 bikers from the Midwest and Eastern United States for training. Oh, what us motorcycle club officers have to do…. Anyway, I looked most at the footwear on all these bikers.

Disappointingly, more than 75% of the men and women at this training for leaders of safe riding motorcycle clubs wore…

…yeah, unfortunately, silly sneakers.

“I am on my feet all day; not on my bike. Sneakers are comfortable!” … the all too-frequent phrase that I heard from most of these people when I asked, “where’s the boots?”

And yes, I did ask! I was not surprised by the response.

There was a lot of walking involved. We met in a convention center that was spread out somewhat between locations for meetings, classes, and presentations.

I demonstrated, though, that a guy can wear boots all day at such an event and be quite comfortable.

What boots did I wear?

1. My Chippewa Firefighter Boots with dark blue tactical pants… kinda “uniform-ish” but stylishly comfortable.

2. My Chippewa harness boots. Standard biker boots that are very, very comfortable and look good with regular denim jeans.

Here is a photo of me with four of my buddies who attended the training with me. Any guesses which feet are mine? (LOL)Life is short: wear BOOTS!

  1. Just be grateful none of them decided to wear flip-flops. But it is Cincinnati. I’m surprised you didn’t see cowboy boots out there.

    • Yes, I am indeed grateful that there were no flip-flops. I too was
surprised not to see more than a couple pairs of cowboy boots on more than 1,600 feet at this training event.

  2. I wear boots precisely BECAUSE I’m on my feet all day. I’m a county commissioner in a rural Colorado mountain county, so most days I wear western work boots most days because I may be jumping fences to check an irrigation ditch issue, climbing an embankment to see a road job, or hiking through the woods to view a volunteer trail project. On meeting or business days, I wear nice Tony Lamas – and on my Harley, I wear my Chippewa harness boots!
