Anything Other Than Football

Yes, ’tis the season here in the good ol’ USA for the football playoffs and championship game. Yawn. I have never been interested in football, even though I was the #1 cheerleader for my twin brother, Mr. Jock, when he was Mr. Football in high school.

While the attention of all of my neighbors, both male and female, turn to the games on “game day” (which for this post, was Sunday), I take advantage of their singular focus to enjoy benefits of their absence from public places (excepting restaurants, which we do not go to)–

You’re Not Gay! No Way!

Yesterday, I was doing my typical routine, having escorted five senior pals (in two trips) grocery shopping. After bringing them back home and checking in with my fiance, I went out again … to the post office, bank, drug store, and grocery store again for something that I forgot to get earlier. Dressed comfortably in leather jeans, boots, and a leather jacket.

Dr. Smith and Mr. Jones

MdmarriagelicenseWhen same-sex couples marry, there are various ways that they recognize their union in the names they use.

My fiance and I have talked about this matter and what names we will use after we marry. This came to our attention when I received Christmas cards addressed to “Myname and Hisname Smith” — implying that my fiance will change his last name to mine OR another card addressed to “Hisname and Myname Jones” — implying that I will take his last name.

What options are there and what have we decided?

Soles of Comfort

Justintandistressed08I am sharing an observation that I discovered, then confirmed with several other guys who wear boots often — firefighters, cops, and motorcycle riders. Most all agree on “comfort comparisons” of boots with smooth soles, compared with boots with “big lug” soles.

Year Transition

SydneydreamnyAs 2012 draws to a close, I am quite thankful, actually. 2012 was a pretty bad year for me. 2013 will be better. It has to be.

Readers of this blog know that my partner/fiance was seriously ill all year, and caring for him became my number one priority. He is not fully recovered, but is better than he was when the symptoms of his illness were at their peak from March through October (yeah, that long).

Other things in my life were rather crappy, too, and my family and close friends know about those things. There are issues that I choose not to write about on this blog. Suffice it to say, overall — 2012 was a crappy year and I am glad that it will end.

I have these plans for 2013 to make that year one of the better years of my life:

Christmas Boots

It took me a while to catch up with a blog post about a wonderful surprise that happened to me during the week before Christmas.

As many readers of this blog know, I hold a special place in my heart for seniors who live in my community. I stop by their homes from time to time, visit, take some of them grocery shopping, or do home repairs. I never ask for payment, but sometimes boots are involved….

What Are The Holes In The Bottom Of Cowboy Boots?

Christmas day was a day of lots of web surfing all over the world. Visits to my website and this blog more than doubled from the average daily visits.

Most of the visits were driven by search engines — lots of people, I presume guys, asking questions about boots. I have blogged before about frequent cowboy boot questions, here. But this one was new — “what are the holes in [the] bottom of cow[boy] boots for”
HolesbootsWell, I haven’t seen that many cows wearing boots, but I do know a thing or two about cowBOY boots. So here goes….

Faith for Christmas

faithWishing all of my readers, visitors, friends, lurkers, and fellow leather/boot/motorcycle enthusiasts all the best for Christmas, or whatever holiday you celebrate.

If I have only one thing for Christmas, it’s faith. Let me be clear, I am talking about my internal faith, not a religiously-imposed belief system. There are differences.
