Where I Am and Transitions

DCMall2013This photo was taken by an astronaut aboard the International Space Station. It features the core of downtown Washington, DC, with the Potomac River on the lower left, and the U.S. Capitol in the middle, facing “the mall” and north up Pennsylvania Avenue where festivities of today will be celebrated.

Am I there for today’s ceremonial Presidential inaugural festivities?

Leather-Like Boot Shafts

LaredotunicaSomeone wrote to me recently asking about Laredo Tunica cowboy boots. These boots are made under the Laredo name by the company that makes Dan Post Boots, McRae Industries. (More info here). His question was, “it states “leather-like shaft”. What does that mean? Is the boot shaft 100% leather or only synthetic leather?”

Here is an example of a description of another pair of Laredo boots. I found this description on a boot/shoe aggregator/retailer’s website: Leather foot with lizard print bucklaced wingtip and a thirteen inch leather-like shaft.

Socked In By Fog

Yesterday (Sunday), the advanced weather forecasts were predicting even warmer weather than we had on Saturday. Earlier in the week, I was debating about whether to schedule a group ride for Saturday or Sunday. I’m glad that I listened to my colleagues who are professional meteorologists, as well as my own intuition. Yesterday, instead of warm and bright, we had cold and damp, I mean really damp, and were socked in by thick fog.

Winter Ride!

Freedom to Be Your Own Man

OhmyI get frustrated sometimes and am frequently puzzled by the large number of men who are directed to my website and this blog when they enter queries about how to dress, particularly with boots. I follow some of their queries to other websites, such as men’s style blogs and forums, or even “yahoo answers” or “wiki how” — all purportedly filled with expertise about what to wear or not wear, how to dress, and whether or not to wear boots, leather clothing, or boots with suits, khakis, or whatnot.

Why the obsessing? Particularly by men? I know that women obsess over that shit, but guys? Really?

My overall feeling (besides puzzlement and pity), seriously, is relief. Why am I relieved?

Leather Weekend in DC

MALlogoYep, the annual gathering of the “great leather clan” and the “leather curious” in Washington, DC — otherwise known as “Mid-Atlantic Leather” (MAL) begins on Friday, January 11, 2013, through Sunday, January 13. (More info here.) It is being held a week earlier than usual this year because next weekend, DC will be focused on the U.S. Presidential Inauguration and it will be murder trying to find a place to stay or get around the city with all the crowds.

So yeah, I have the boots, the leather, and I’m gay ==> most prerequisites to fit the demographic of those who register for and attend MAL. Will my fiance and I attend?
