This last week has been about as typical in my boring old life as ever. Here are the boots that I chose to wear each day during the past week:

Outlays on Cowboy Boots Tear Hem
The other day, I wore my Lucchese Classic tan/black wingtip cowboy boots. The black designs on the boot foot, shaft, and heels are pieces of intricately cut leather and are applied on the outside surface of the boot. These are called “outlays.”
What is an “outlay” compared with an “inlay?”

Boots of the Past Week
Boots last week, yesterday, today, tomorrow… what’s on my feet.
My week last week continued as it usually does… work, caregiving at home and with my senior pals, building “that big thing for the kitchen,” and doctor’s visits and a biker’s meeting… same old same old. Here is how I was booted this past week:

You Even Wear Boots in Summer?
A colleague from work walked with me yesterday to a meeting in a building about a half-mile away. The weather was warm, humid, and sunny.
My colleague was complaining about the heat and wearing a shirt & tie (like I was) and feeling sweaty. Then he looked at my feet, saw my boots and asked,

Boots Today While Heart is Torn
I regret that I do not have much time to write a blog post — my spouse had a really bad day yesterday, and once again, I poured myself into my caregiving role.
This morning at oh-dark-30, he is sleeping well and I have to go to work. I have a major meeting with the boss’ boss today that I can’t miss. This tug-o-heart between working at a job that I am passionate about and caring for my spouse who remains quite ill is awful, but I soldier on.
My spouse knows how torn I am, so a few days ago, he presented me with a gift — yeah, boots — Tony Lama Signature Series

Made-to-Measure and Custom Boots
I have a good friend who admires quality, custom-made cowboy boots. He asked me some questions about how to order custom boots, including about custom lasts and whether it is necessary to travel to a custom bootmaker or if it is okay to place an order sight unseen. Having ordered and received a few pairs of custom boots (both cowboy and motorcycle boots), I am answering him in this blog.

Boots of the Past Week
A mid-June week in the Northern Hemisphere, with our first “heat wave” (albeit 2.5 days), and the HHH has returned to the Worshinun arear (pronounced air-eee-ur). Gotta get the local vernacular right, right cheer in Worshinun. (If you’re not sure what I’m saying, go ax a local.)
I wore an average number of pairs of boots this week…

Inspiring Men to Wear Boots
Lately, six guys have written to me to ask a question about boots, and each of them began with telling me that for some reason, this blog and my website have inspired them to wear boots and encourage others to do the same.
I really am amazed at that, especially with an unusual number of real people writing to me. I usually receive an average of just two to four inquiries each month.
What is my “secret” to inspire men to wear boots?
