Fall Frolicking–In Boots, Of Course

We have hundreds of trees on our property. Fortunately, we have very little lawn in comparison with the amount of our property that we leave to nature.

Once each autumn, enough leaves from our back yard trees fall on the front and side lawns that require blowing, raking, and toting to the far rear of our property to the compost pile.

Such was our last weekend… and while removing the leaves, I wore a pair of boots that have a triple use — cowboy, motorcycle, and work. What were they?

Internet Connected Oven?

My spouse and I went to a local appliance retailer to purchase a new double oven. Unfortunately, our ovens have crapped out and cannot be repaired. Since I use them almost every day, it is not surprising.

We did our research and settled on a double oven that met my requirements and would fit our space. It was only when we were in the appliance store that I was asked, “don’t you want the ‘brillion’ option, which allows you to control your ovens via your smartphone?”

My spouse and I looked at each other and…

Preparing To Fly

Short blog… little time right now to write… I will fly on Sunday across the U.S. for a business meeting.

Before taking off, I will help seven of my senior pals stock up on groceries.

Afternoon update: I was planning on spending all afternoon on Saturday cooking meals for my spouse to eat while I am gone. He can fend for himself, but I prefer to leave him home-cooked meals that are better fitting for his special diet that is required to keep regaining health after his long illness.

I was elated when my friend who had that minor hypothermia incident (who I found before something awful happened) said, “let me prepare meals for your husband.” She brought over soups, stews, and casseroles — enough to keep my spouse (and an army) well-fed while I am away!

Love comes back … I am tearful but so very grateful. Freed up hours of my time so I can spend it with my spouse, enjoying his company.

I will write when I get to Reno and perhaps even post some photos.

Meanwhile, be safe, show those you love how you love them, and wear boots!

Cold Weather Adjustments

SpringsprungblogAlways happens, without fail, we get a cold snap about this time of year. It heralds oncoming winter, and what some people call “Indian Summer.” Technically, Indian Summer is a period of warmer days following the first killing frost of the season.

Last night, such a freeze was predicted. Lots of media hype about protecting outdoor plants was blasted all over the news and public alert systems.

As an avid daily motorcyclist, what did I do?

Work Booted for Senior Safety Saturday

Twice each year, I am involved in a community project that I organized almost 20 years ago. We call the project now: “Senior Safety Saturday.”

For the past two months, I have been engaged in significant fundraising, while two senior pals recruited volunteers and reached out to fellow seniors who live in older homes that usually require repairs or modifications to make them more “senior friendly” and safe.

I am happy that once again, 59 seniors living in 47 homes (condos and houses) are now safer. We installed…

Targetting the Icon of Mummified Habit and Unthinking Conformity

Looking for content suitable for this blog, I reflect again on comments on a previous post titled Not the Ordinary Gay Guy’s Blog submitted by regular readers.

My friend Kevin stated that I am genuine and speak from the heart. My friend OBMIT said that I don’t blog about stereotypical gay topics (except in ways that bring their ill-advised focus to light.)

But what floored me was the comment from reader Bill…

Bully and the Bullied Together Back In Our High School

I wrote a post last September about a former bully who apologized to me as an adult. We renewed our acquaintance at an informal high school reunion some 37 years after we graduated from high school. We promised each other then that we would find a way to reach out to current high school students as a team to explain how things were and that things get better.

Yesterday, we finally had that opportunity.

Pay Stub: Married

I continue to see changes occur due to my relationship status change to “married”. My pay stub (actually, a “pay advice statement” indicating what I was paid in salary and what was taken for deductions before the pittance of a remainder is direct-deposited into my bank accounts) now says, “Status: Married.”

Woo-wee! My withholding for Federal and State taxes actually went down, too, making my take-home pay a bit larger. I now am considering how to reallocate what’s left over to various deposit accounts. But first, pay ME!
