Last night, just for an hour, I got real crazy. Again. I’ve been doing it now for 41 years, just about this time of year.

This is a brief update about my spouse who has had an awful relapse of the infection that took him out last year.
I wrote a post, “Lookin’ for Happy” on December 6, stating that my spouse was not able to walk or eat much. He was so sick…
But one week later, we have reasons to be hopeful.

I have a (straight) friend who is a Realtor and who sells homes in the community where I live. I have always thought her to be rather smart, but she floored me when she called me the other day to say, “I have a gay couple I am working with. Would you mind if I gave them your number and asked them to call you to learn about gay real estate?”
Huh?

I have mentioned on this blog that I was promoted recently. In the nature of my new job, I represent my division at meetings of agency management on a regular basis now. The men at these meetings always, always wear a tie.
How has this guy who has resisted wearing ties for decades responded?

I wear engineer boots — the kind with a round toe, single strap and buckle across the instep, and a buckle top closure — regularly. I like the classic design of these boots, as well as their rugged durability. For someone like me — a honest-to-goodness biker — having functional footwear is important for my safety, comfort, and ease of handling my heavyweight motorcycle.
Someone wrote to me about two months ago to ask if I had seen the Wolverine 1000 Mile lineup, which includes short (10 inch/25cm) engineer “Stockton” (model) boots. He wanted to know my opinion. Since I did not own a pair of those boots, I…

I posted a while back that my boss noticed that I wear boots a lot (te he) and that he expressed interest in getting a pair of boots for himself. I offered to go boot shopping with him.
Yesterday afternoon turned out to be the time for our shopping trip. I had to go to Virginia anyway to get something for my spouse that was out of stock in pharmacies closer to where I live in Maryland, so the timing worked out. My sister came over to stay with my spouse while I…

Right now, things aren’t going so well in the ol’ BHD household. My spouse is seriously ill once again. Treatments are not working (yet). Even my world-famous chicken soup, which is the only thing he can eat right now, is not aiding with the recovery.
My spirits are challenged.

Woo-hoo, today is a bonus riding day for this biker!
Around where I live, by December, the weather is usually too cold and uncooperative to ride my Harley. However, today it is unseasonably warm — 55F (13C) at oh-dark-30 when I leave home to get to work!
Roll the cages (my truck and spouse’s sedan) out of the garage. Do a full T-CLOCS check of the Harley. No issues.
On with the black ostrich harness boots, chaps, Langlitz jacket — time to ride!
Even though I am only riding to work and home again, it always energizes me and makes me feel great to be able to enjoy riding on bonus days like this!
Woo-hoo! Let’s have a productive and energetic day!
Life is short: RIDE!
Guest blog by BHD’s twin brother, J
It has been a long time since I have had reliable internet access and the time to read my brother’s blog and comment, much less write a guest post. But here I am. Where have I been?

I am truly grateful for my network of family and friends who have been helping me during the current medical crisis that my spouse is dealing with. The outpouring of support has been beyond phenomenal.
I posted a short note on a social network, and the outpouring of love blew me away. Literally hundreds of messages of support, which buoyed my worried soul more than my friends realize. Thank you, thank you.
Saturday evening, I had an important family function that I could not miss. However, my spouse …
