Services for Same-Sex Couples

[Warning: rare rant alert]
As a man who married his man legally in the state where we live, I have been asked what I think about situations where some service providers have been asked and have denied services to same-sex couples. For example, florists, bakeries, party rental providers, or facilities (recreation hall or similar where a couple could have a party or wedding reception.)

One may think that I would have strong feelings about this matter…

PR Dreamin’

I can hardly believe, 19 years ago today, the love of my life and I were on a beach on my very favorite Caribbean island, him shirtless and wearing a Speedo, then later that evening, we enjoyed a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner on la isla del encanto.

Ahhhh… cherish the memories.

Our recollection of that week and that particular day…

We Survived

Yep, we got dumped on with snow last night, as did many other places in the southern and eastern United States. I knew this storrm was coming more than a week ago. I used that “inside information” to check my personal preparedness, as well as my senior legion. Glad I did. I discovered that…

Dual Duty Boots

Being a guy, I try to minimize inconvenience while doing double-duty.

These days, I have to dress for work — nice slacks, dress shirt, and occasionally even a necktie when I have meetings with the boss’ boss’ boss, which lately tends to be several times a week.

I also have a legion of senior pals who I look after by stopping by their homes on my way home from work to do random odd jobs and minor home repairs which sometimes involve working in dirty situations (basements, under cabinets, and crawl spaces.)

Since I do not bring a change of clothes to work with me (being a guy who doesn’t use a gym, I have no reason to bring a gym bag), I find other ways to handle the situation of wearing suitable boots to wear in my office while also doing double-duty as acceptable work boots for my after-work chores. How am I booted?

Ignorance

It was sadly amusing to me to find that someone, let’s say who is among those less educated, and therefore to be gently pitied for his plight, would enter a search on the words, “homos are ignorant,” into a search engine.IgnorantThat search led to a post on this blog titled The Homo-ignorant where I recounted a story about someone who was on a motorcycle ride with me last year who did not know what he was saying and how his ignorance was observed.

How do I feel about posts like this?

Leather in Public–Shopping with Seniors

A regular weekend activity is to escort lovely ladies to the grocery store. During winter months, it is quite common that I wear comfortable leather jeans, a flannel shirt, and a leather jacket. Black boots, of course, complete the UoD.

None of my friends say a thing about the leather. They are quite accustomed to seeing me dressed that way.

Ever the gentleman, I frequently reach on high shelves to get items for my sr. friends who are, let’s say, “vertically challenged.”

That background lead to an amusing situation on Sunday…

No Thousand Miles in Wolverine Boots

Wolverinebrown04I wrote a post on this blog on December 10, 2013, comparing Wolverine “1,000 Mile” Stockton Engineer Boots with White’s Nomad engineer boots. My opinion of the Wolverine boots was reinforced today when I wore those boots on a day packed with errands. I’m not sure why I picked those boots from all that I have, but I did.

What do I say now about Wolverine boots?

If I Were Single

Someone asked me recently what I would be doing and where I would be living if I were single. I tell ya’ honestly, that question really threw me for a loop. I had thoughts of what direction I may have taken my life if I had not met the man I married more than 20 years ago.

Hmmmm… what I may have done if I did not meet my man back in 1993…

Return of Romance

When a man is in a permanent relationship for what seems like forever, in our case, almost 21 years, he gets comfortable in a natural routine. Go to work, come home, make dinner, catch up on the daily news and each other’s day while apart (in my case, I work in an office all day and my spouse is retired, and at home.)

The “settled routine” is comforting, but does not lend itself to romance… much.

However, last night was an example of how much my spouse truly cares and loves me. Let me begin by recounting my day, that led to a wonderful romantic surprise when I got home.

Wrong Boots

I am admitting — note it here and now — I selected the WRONG BOOTS to wear while at a conference last week.

I have no idea what I was thinking. Sure, I was distracted with worry about my spouse and having guests in the house while I was packing, but I really should have given two more minutes of thought before just picking out a couple pairs of boots and going to California.

What boots were wrong and why?
