Freedom to Be Your Own Man

OhmyI get frustrated sometimes and am frequently puzzled by the large number of men who are directed to my website and this blog when they enter queries about how to dress, particularly with boots. I follow some of their queries to other websites, such as men’s style blogs and forums, or even “yahoo answers” or “wiki how” — all purportedly filled with expertise about what to wear or not wear, how to dress, and whether or not to wear boots, leather clothing, or boots with suits, khakis, or whatnot.

Why the obsessing? Particularly by men? I know that women obsess over that shit, but guys? Really?

My overall feeling (besides puzzlement and pity), seriously, is relief. Why am I relieved?

Leather Weekend in DC

MALlogoYep, the annual gathering of the “great leather clan” and the “leather curious” in Washington, DC — otherwise known as “Mid-Atlantic Leather” (MAL) begins on Friday, January 11, 2013, through Sunday, January 13. (More info here.) It is being held a week earlier than usual this year because next weekend, DC will be focused on the U.S. Presidential Inauguration and it will be murder trying to find a place to stay or get around the city with all the crowds.

You’re Not Gay! No Way!

Yesterday, I was doing my typical routine, having escorted five senior pals (in two trips) grocery shopping. After bringing them back home and checking in with my fiance, I went out again … to the post office, bank, drug store, and grocery store again for something that I forgot to get earlier. Dressed comfortably in leather jeans, boots, and a leather jacket.

Dr. Smith and Mr. Jones

MdmarriagelicenseWhen same-sex couples marry, there are various ways that they recognize their union in the names they use.

My fiance and I have talked about this matter and what names we will use after we marry. This came to our attention when I received Christmas cards addressed to “Myname and Hisname Smith” — implying that my fiance will change his last name to mine OR another card addressed to “Hisname and Myname Jones” — implying that I will take his last name.

What options are there and what have we decided?

Soles of Comfort

Justintandistressed08I am sharing an observation that I discovered, then confirmed with several other guys who wear boots often — firefighters, cops, and motorcycle riders. Most all agree on “comfort comparisons” of boots with smooth soles, compared with boots with “big lug” soles.

Here is the observation and results of personal comparison tests–
