Getting Back On The Saddle

As an avid motorcyclist — or shall I say: as a biker who has ridden motorcycles for the better part of 40 years — I continue to seek ways to balance my fondness for the freedom of two-wheeled adventures while dealing with the issues of being a “mature older man”: caregiving for the Spouse requires an enormous amount of time and attention; working more than full-time in a management position while serving as the Acting Boss; and the aches, pains, and infirmities of age.

This balancing act gets tougher, but as they say,

Admiring Higher Level Motorcycle Skill

Many of my loyal readers know that I am friends with motorcycle cops who work in the area where I live. I have known one of them since we went to high school together (JB), and through him, have met, trained with, and ridden motorcycles together (a little) over decades.

One would expect motorcycle cops to have exceptional riding skills, because they ride and practice almost daily.

However, there are a few motorcycle riders who aren’t bike cops, but whose skill impresses the heck out of me. They have…

Returning

Greeting, loyal blog readers,

I appreciate your patience while I had to take a break during one of the most intense periods of needing to attend to my Spouse’s health issues. He still remains quite ill, and we can’t find what’s wrong, despite his been seen and having tests done by four more specialists during the blog break.

No Rolling, Lots of Thunder

Every year this weekend, the “Rolling Thunder” motorcycle event occurs (the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend.) Bikers ride to the parking lot of the Pentagon building in Arlington, Virginia, then ride into Washington, DC, along a route that swings by the U.S. Capitol Building, the White House, then ends at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial (near the Lincoln Memorial.)

I have ridden on this ride several times, but years ago. Why not now?

That Motorcycle Itch

I am struggling… divided… personally challenged… am I old? How old is old anyway? Is there a “too old for” this-or-that? Too old for going on another crazy-awesome motorcycle adventure? Too old to ride a motorcycle any more at all?

Is it age? Is it physical infirmity? Is it focus and motivations elsewhere like spousal caregiving?

Just what IS it that is causing these internally divided feelings?

Ah ha! I know! The “IT” that is the root cause of these feelings is…

A Year Ago and Far Away

One year ago this week, I was working thousands of miles away from home (yeah, actually working). That work-trip began with a “one-day” bucket-list adventure.

As I contemplate our lives today, caring for my very feeble and frail mother-in-law and my spouse whose condition isn’t so good either, I still smile and remember…
