Riding in Advance of the Storm

Yesterday was a holiday in the United States — the birthday of Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King. I had the day off work, but worked anyway. I finished helping my recently deceased sr. pal’s daughter clean up her mother’s condo, took a few more sr. pals to the grocery store to stock up in advance of the oncoming, world-ending, monumental, massive, overpowering, mind-boggling…

Riding Is a Great Way to Break Caregiver Fatigue

While my twin brother is here, and he is a huge help when it comes to looking after my spouse, I still do the lion’s share of caregiving. Fortunately, my spouse has been stable for the last week, which is a good thing. However, the caregiving still takes a toll.

Besides my brother and my siblings, I have good friends who look after me. All have suggested, “do something fun for yourself and give yourself a break.”Ride01122014meblogThat I did today… I leathered up in layers and went for a ride with five hearty souls. We rode…

Riding on January 1

The first of January dawned cold, too cold, I thought, to try to make arrangements to meet my motorcycle club for its annual “polar bear” motorcycle ride. Plus, I wanted to have a leisurely breakfast with my spouse, my brother, and my sister-in-law on my last day of holiday break.

But it was a bothersome thing in the back of my mind, “you don’t get many days in winter where it is sunny and tolerable for riding.”

However, I promised some senior pals to do some home repairs that I was not able to do earlier during my holiday break as I needed to spend time caring for my spouse. Now with my brother here and available to help my spouse should he need anything, I went to my 3 friends’ homes and dispatched the repairs quickly.

By early afternoon, it warmed up to a balmy 43F (6C) and I was done with my promised work for my senior pals. So what did I do?

Riding on the Winter Solstice

It is sunny and 70F (21C) today where I live! This is an unusual gift of motorcycle riding/leather weather on the first day of astronomical winter! Woo-hoo! Sorry this is short — I’m out with some buddies for a ride!

I will catch up with more tomorrow about my trip to da’ ‘burgh and boots on the roof.

Life is short: cherish gift riding weather in winter!

Bonus Riding Day!

Woo-hoo, today is a bonus riding day for this biker!

Around where I live, by December, the weather is usually too cold and uncooperative to ride my Harley. However, today it is unseasonably warm — 55F (13C) at oh-dark-30 when I leave home to get to work!

Roll the cages (my truck and spouse’s sedan) out of the garage. Do a full T-CLOCS check of the Harley. No issues.

On with the black ostrich harness boots, chaps, Langlitz jacket — time to ride!

Even though I am only riding to work and home again, it always energizes me and makes me feel great to be able to enjoy riding on bonus days like this!

Woo-hoo! Let’s have a productive and energetic day!

Life is short: RIDE!

Cured To Ride

Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling crappy, as if a cold were about to take hold. I know how it feels and really thought that I was in for rough times ahead and feeling crappy for several days. Worse — keeping distance from my spouse.

However, I am cured as I write this post in the evening. How did I get well so fast?

Passing The Motorcycling Torch

RideNov2013aSaturday was unseasonally warm(ish) and the leaf color was at peak (or whatever peak will be around where I live). Perfect leather weather with temps reaching the mid 60s (19C). I carried out my responsibilities early by taking my spouse to run some errands, then escorting three lovely ladies grocery shopping. With these tasks done by lunch, it was time to go for a ride with Dan.

I gave Dan’s Mom a call, because I don’t text and he does not use a telephone, so I have to use his Mom to bridge our generation gap. Dan was ready and arrived at my house on his Honda Shadow in just a few minutes. He showed off a new pair of Chippewa engineer boots. Well, at least he’s booted right!

I was wearing my leather riding breeches with lug-soled Chippewa hi-shine boots. I pulled on my long-sleeved leather shirt, rolled out the Harley and said, “stop!” Why?
