As I said before I took my blog break for the long Independence Day weekend, I lined up a lot of projects to do. Always more projects than weekend, but I accomplished three things: I built a bridge, I lowered my taxes, and I was filmed for a TV show.

Difference Between Firefighter Boots and Wildland Firefighter Boots
Ahhh… how one word makes a huge difference in boot design and use.
So what is the difference between “firefighter boots” and “wildland firefighter boots”, also known as “fire boots” or by the names applied to the boots by their respective manufacturers, such as “Firestormer” (Wesco) and “Smokejumpers” (White’s Boots).
More after the jump…

Inspiring Men to Wear Boots
Lately, six guys have written to me to ask a question about boots, and each of them began with telling me that for some reason, this blog and my website have inspired them to wear boots and encourage others to do the same.
I really am amazed at that, especially with an unusual number of real people writing to me. I usually receive an average of just two to four inquiries each month.
What is my “secret” to inspire men to wear boots?

Boots of the Past Week
This past week, I wore many different pairs of boots in my boot collection. I firmly believe that boots are to be worn, and wear them I do! During the last seven days, I wore these boots for the following activities:

Best Boots for Snow
Welcome back to the blog; this time, the discussion is about my opinion about boots to wear when having to work in cold and icy weather, such as this past week when we got dumped on with a foot (30cm) of snow. I know that amount of snow pales in comparison with other locations, but for those of us who live near Washington, DC, that was significant.
What boots did I wear when removing snow from our walks and drive, as well as my neighbors and six senior pals’ property?

Gettin’ the Guys Booted
We have had a bout of rather extreme cold and snowy weather in the DC area — and we’re not alone, with the majority of the central, southern, and eastern U.S. experiencing extreme cold relative to their respective averages. Another segment of the Polar Vortex broke south again, and is the culprit to the cold misery that millions of us are experiencing. (Sorry to sound a bit geeky, but my professional side is coming out.)
So back to the situation at hand. Or should I say, situation at-foot.

Boots–Shopping, Shoveling, and Hospital
Saturday was a very busy day, starting with a shopping trip to a plumbling contractor’s supply store, where I wore my Chippewa logger boots (’cause it’s damn cold and icy!)
When I arrived home, I had messages from some of my senior pals who asked if I knew anyone who could shovel their sidewalks. Frustrated and angry that teenage neighbors refused to help, even for pay, my boots took me to four of their homes and I shoveled… broke up the ice… and shoveled.
Man, when I returned home, I was beat. But the day’s trials of my soul weren’t over…

How Much of a Discount Offer Entices a Purchase?
As I was driving into work today, I was listening to the all-news radio station as usual. There was a story about how much of a discount people expect to be offered that actually get them to buy something.
This time of year, many stores and vendors are offering sales for Christmas. Since mid-November, I have received email after email from vendors that sell boots. Offers of 10%, 15%, 20%, 30%, or more.
What amount of a discount motivates me to look? What amount gets me to consider a purchase?

Rain Changes Plans (and muds the boots)
I had planned to go riding (motorcycles) with some buddies yesterday, but it rained… and rained… and rained… all morning. Caused a change of plans. I contacted my friends and we decided to cancel the ride. That happens.
Instead, I pulled on my Chippewa Logger Boots, got two shovels from the shed, set my eyes on that mudhole in the back yard, grabbed my spouse, and…
