I organized two very intense days of remodeling a home for a grandson of a senior pal of mine. This gentleman was severely injured during military service, and has returned to civilian status. He lives with his wife and daughters in a quiet, old neighborhood in the community/county where I live.

Most of my loyal blog readers know that I do lots of home remodeling through voluntary efforts. I usually join groups who remodel homes for seniors to make their homes move livable and to accommodate their needs as they grow older.
Yesterday, however, I served as a General Contractor (supervisor) of the largest “build” I have ever done — to totally remodel the home of a wounded warrior to whom I was introduced by a senior pal. This guy is the grandson of one of my dearest senior pals. She asked me if I would oversee a remodeling job for her grandson’s house three months ago.
It took a long time for all of the arrangements to come through, but yesterday and today, everything came into place.

I have made it very clear that I wear boots every day while doing everything that I do. I wear them with nice clothes that I wear to work. I wear them even with suits on the rare occasions that I have to dress up. I wear motorcycle boots while riding my Harley — always — no silly unsafe sneakers for me! I even wear boots when I do my long vigorous walks — hikers. Again, sneakers? Bah, humbug!
It is amusing to me how many people know that I’m a regular and reliable “boot guy.” I catch them stealing glances, asking themselves and sometimes voicing the question, “what boots does he have on today?”

Admittedly, I remain a steadfast dinosaur when it comes to acquiring and using a mobile device. For many years, I have strongly resented the outrageous prices charged for data plans that enable smartphones. Companies that are filthy rich get richer off those who pay whatever the companies want to charge, and in my opinion, are throwing away thousands of dollars every year in exchange for the minor conveniences that these devices offer.
Believe me, people still got along quite fine in the days before these devices became ubiquitous.
