Fa bene means, “oh well.” Today, Sunday 14 August, I would have been arriving at Fuimicino Airport in Rome, Italy. Yep, I had a trip planned for quite a while to see a man. My spouse even approved being left behind while I went tootin’ off to see this guy.
What? Who? …

The relapse of the infection that my spouse has been fighting this week has produced highly variable symptoms, including vertigo, nausea, brain fog, and aphasia (unable to express words, though he knows them.)
Because of the room-spinning dizziness, he could not keep solid foods on his tummy. The brain fog — a cloud of non-comprehension — caused him to not be “in the present.” He could function physically, but not mentally. The combination of these symptoms is frightening.
I posted yesterday that my spouse was missing. Last night, however…

Has anyone seen my spouse? He is the good-looking hunk who hangs around our house. He is the one who tends to our gardens, does all our laundry, and cuts coupons to match them with sales that we frequently save 40% or more on our weekly groceries.
He is the one who puts up with a lot of crazy things I do, from entertaining hundreds of seniors on Thanksgiving each year to spending a lot of time caring for others, remodeling homes, and being a wonky community activist.
My spouse is the guy who…

I am very unhappy. My beloved spouse who had dealt with a horrible long-term illness that put him through three YEARS of hell has had a relapse. (I wrote about our ordeal in many posts on this blog, tagged here.)
My spouse has been in remission from symptoms for 21 months, but for about the last week…

I ride with a motorcycle riding club. We have several dozen people who serve as Road Captains, and I am among that cadre. I had a ride planned for this past Saturday, but canceled it on the day before the ride when the forecast for rain was 70%. Of course, the morning of the ride, the rain forecast had reduced to 20%, but you can’t un-cancel a canceled ride. I was disappointed to let my fellow club members down, but these things happen. (I often over-think weather forecasts!)
So since I caught up on household chores and grocery visits with my LOLITS on Saturday, I had Sunday open for a ride. The weather was sunny, warm, and had a tad lower humidity. I donned my new summer-weight ballistic nylon jacket, breeches, favorite Chippewa Firefighter Boots and met the guys for a ride. However…

I continue to receive questions along the lines of, “with so many boots in your cowboy boots, motorcycle boots, Frye boots, work boots and dress boots collections, do you really wear them all?
I can understand why I get those kinds of questions. The answer is…

Alas, just when I thought issues about same-sex marriage, particularly in my family, had quieted and had become non-issues, at a recent family gathering, someone to whom I am related (husband of a first cousin once removed) saw the ring on my left ring finger and asked, “when did you get married?”
That question didn’t surprise me from this guy because I have not seen him in several years. I said that I married (BB, but given name) in April, 2013.
The response was disquieting. He said,

I arrived home safely via red-eye from California on Sunday morning. After getting reacquainted with the spouse and catching up on a few things, my spouse called me into our family room and presented me with…

Friday morning I got the news that a cousin who is as close to me as a brother was dying. This was quite unexpected. I had spoken with this cousin just a few weeks ago and all was normal.
However, just nine days ago, he was diagnosed with…
