Fa Bene

Roma2Fa bene means, “oh well.” Today, Sunday 14 August, I would have been arriving at Fuimicino Airport in Rome, Italy. Yep, I had a trip planned for quite a while to see a man. My spouse even approved being left behind while I went tootin’ off to see this guy.

What? Who? …

This man I was going to visit has visited me here in the United States this week many times.

Loyal blog readers who who I am talking about — my twin brother. It is our birthday on Tuesday. This time, I was going to surprise him instead of the other way around.

I had it all arranged. Through secret conversations with my sister-in-law, we had set up the ruse for me to surprise him. I used frequent flyer miles to arrange an airline ticket. It was all set.

I would love to have brought my spouse with me, but even if he were not sick now, he still could not travel by air. He has lingering and permanent damage to his hips and other joints that make it very difficult for him to be seated in an airplane — even in business class.

My spouse encouraged me, however, to go. He insisted that he would be alright. Despite my hesitation to leave him, I really wanted to return to Italy where I had not visited since 2003 (way too long) and surprise the best half of that egg that split so many years ago.

However, this trip was not to be. My spouse needs me now, and as I truly believe:

…for better or for worse, in sickness and in health…

My planned time off will involve many trips though! Oh boy! Doctor’s offices, labs, and even the pharmacy! Yay!

Life is short: show those you love how you love them.
