Happy To Be Called Silly

MarylandflaggayringsFour years ago, the day after the 2012 elections, I awoke to the news that Maryland had become the first state in the United States to allow same-sex marriage by popular vote (not from a court ruling) — through a process of defeating an ugly referendum that was attempting to overturn a law that the Maryland legislature had passed earlier in the year.

It was that morning, four years ago, that I knew for certain that I could actually get married. Who woulda thunk?

So after preparing breakfast for my spouse, I got down on a knee, held his hand, looked deep into his beautiful blue eyes and asked,

Men: Best Jeans for Boots

rp_Davemjeans3.jpgDenim jeans are the most popular pants in the world. Casual, comfortable, durable, easy to care for, and (some) quite affordable, denim jeans are the staple of a man’s wardrobe. Funny, I read a statistic somewhere that the average adult male in the United States owns five pairs of jeans and four pairs of dress slacks. More jeans than dresswear? Well, on average, maybe so. Certainly most guys prefer to wear casual, comfortable clothes rather than have to dress up (blechhh..)

In response to a friend’s suggestion (thanks, WC), following are my personal opinions on the best jeans for men who wear boots (and in general, because even though some guys may wear sneakers, we all know they envy those of us who wear boots every day.)

Asked And Answered On This Blog

Bootsoffice2When one has had a boots-and-gear-and-motorcycle-and-loving spouse -related blog for as long as I have, it is darn hard to come up with fresh content for my posts. I remain dedicated to post a new blog about every two days, but I struggle with finding ideas to write about.

I look into a stats site that gives me insights as to what people are searching for that directs them to this blog. So many questions, but over the years, as far as this blog is concerned, it is “asked and answered.” I have not seen a new question or search in more than a year (or longer) that I have not previously addressed.

Here are some of the latest searches or questions that…

Late October Summer Gear Ride

On Sunday, we had unseasonably warm temperatures. It reached 81F (27C), which in Maryland, USA, is near record-breaking for 30 October. I worked hard all day Saturday to free up my Sunday schedule so I could meet my favorite motorcycle riding cousin and ride the eastern-most chain of the Blue Ridge mountains.

We were looking for autumn color. However, in these parts…

I Am As Married As He Is

Handsrings01Warning: rare rant alert.

The other day at the office, New Guy (well, he’s been here more than a year now, but he still is the newest member of the staff and at a rookie rank) returned from his honeymoon after his wedding of two weeks ago.

I congratulated him, and then he revealed his true character…

Fall Leather and Leaf Color

I accomplished many chores over the weekend, from home fix-it jobs on the spouse’s “honey-do” list, to caring for my lovely senior pals in taking them grocery shopping, mowing the lawn, and other fun stuff like that.

I was all done by early afternoon on Sunday. The spouse said, “considering that the weather is so nice today, and that you will be having to take care of me after tomorrow’s procedure, why don’t you go for a ride on your Harley?

Man, he didn’t have to ask me twice. I called…

Focused

I am usually a “get it done” kinda guy because I have an ability to apply a laser-like focus to work and tasks I set out to do. Having that type of focus has not been innate; I had to learn how to avoid distractions that would divert attention and keep me from completing even the most simple tasks.

I cannot say that as a child that I had ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), but I know that I was scatter-brained. I would flit from one thing to another, and my Mom would…
