Memories

Today, the date of September 11 (not “9/11”), marks a very dark date in the history of the United States, where cowardly terrorists caused pain, anguish, injuries, and deaths in 2001. I won’t let them win by describing what they did — we all know that. Instead, today, I will pay tribute to the countless thousands of responders, both in professional positions (fire, law enforcement, EMS) and those who jumped in voluntarily to alleviate suffering and help as best they could.

I spent six months after that dreadful day doing my part in providing relief, and that included much time in New York City. It’s one reason why I have no plans ever to return to NYC … too many painful memories which still haunt me today.

But there’s more to this day than memories of those attacks…

New Guy Into Leather?

Leatherdude1I have received a few emails in the last week or so from younger guys who have said that they like the appearance of leather garments, and want to get some. However, they have tight budgets and have expressed concern that they don’t think they can afford new leather goods from a reputable leathercrafter.

A couple of these guys were asking what gear they should get to wear to a leather bar, or if they did not have leather garments, could they go to a leather bar at all?

American Cops and Leather

I am not a cop, but I ride with some motorcops as friends. I also work in my community with local cops on various task forces and community events. Recently, I served as one of about 40 judges for a police motorcycle riding competition held in the hot days of August.

A friend emailed me to say that he was sorry that “American cops do not wear leather… even in winter.” He is right. There are some reasons why…
