Backup Leathers and Boots

I tend to be rather absent-minded. I guess it goes with my lifestyle of doing a thousand things simultaneously.

Yesterday when I arrived at my local Metro station on my way home from work, I went to my partner’s car in the garage, retrieved my motorcycle helmet, and put my briefcase inside. Because it was so warm, I left my leathers which I had used that morning in the trunk.

La-la-la, I rode my Harley home on a warm sunny day, changed clothes, put on jeans and my bullhide Nocona boots, then fed the birds. I got soaked because I forgot to turn off the anti-deer motion-sensitive sprinkler. Changed clothes and boots again, this time wearing Justin snoot-toed cowboy boots. I then put the sprinkler on the front lawn to water our new sod, and tripped over the hose and got wet again. Changed clothes and boots, this time wearing Champion Attitude Firebird cowboy boots. I then went over to my aunt’s house to replace some burned out fluorescent tubes. One of the tubes shattered and when I got back home, I had to change clothes so that I wouldn’t hurt myself on residual glass shards. Changed this time to Dress Instep Dehner Boots, having had bad luck with cowboy boots that afternoon and having viewed so many pairs of those gorgeous boots at the Blue Mass yesterday! (I’ll blog on that tomorrow).

After cooking a great dinner for my partner and myself, I spent time processing some photos and video that I took at the Blue Mass. I enjoyed feeling the tight grip of my Dehners as I was oogling cop boots on my computer screen. Anyway, soon enough, bed time rolled around. It was only this morning when I realized that my favorite biker jacket and chaps, as well as my briefcase, were still in my partner’s trunk… at the Metro (since he leaves before I do.)

Fortunately, I have a lot of leather gear, so I just put on my Taylor’s Leatherwear Jacket and my red piped chaps (which I hadn’t put away since wearing them on Sunday), and off I rode… back to Metro. Now my partner’s truck has two sets of leathers in it. I must remember to retrieve all that gear from my partner’s trunk when he gets home later, else he may think I’m trying to turn his trunk into an accessory leather gear closet!

Bike cop boots on the mind

With the Pope being in Washington, there is even more security in the city than usual. There are many times in the last couple days when I’ve seen booted bike cops standing around, directing traffic, and even occasionally operating their bikes. (Funny, I see more standing than I do riding.)

With bike cop boots on my mind, I’m wearing a pair today, just for the heck of it. H-D Police Enforcer Boots. Nice looking, very comfy.

On Tuesday I took an hour out, leathered up, put on these boots, and mounted my camera to my Harley in a different place and shot a video, which I have embedded here. It was fun to do.

Good Day for a Ride

Man, it’s warm today! It’s over 70F, and for mid-February in the DC area, that is very unusual. I had some chores to do around the house on this holiday, like try to fix a leaky faucet and some other things. I also was contacted by someone who is interested in looking at my Harley, which is up for sale as I’m lookin’ at a new one. I’ll ride my ol’ Dyna over to his place later and perhaps work out a deal.

I’ll miss the Low Rider. We’ve been all over the country together, two-up with my hunky partner. Sturgis South Dakota, McAlester Oklahoma, and many points in between. Not to mention the many miles I’ve ridden with my biker buds. Yeah, I’ll miss this great bike, but after 15 years, it is time to move on. I just hope the guy buys it — then I can get my new one. I promised my partner that I wouldn’t get a new bike until the old one was sold. Meanwhile, I’m going to go for a ride on this nice day, in boots and leather, of course!

Clearing the head

I remain saddened and am grieving for the loss of my dear friend who died unexpectedly on Feb. 1. But it’s no fun moping around the house, and my partner doesn’t know what to do with me when I get this way.

Sunday afternoon was exceptionally pleasant and unusually warm for early February. So I booted up in my tall brown Wesco harness boots, leathered up my legs and body, and went for a ride. My partner filmed me doing some spins in a parking lot, which I’m using as a sales vid since I am selling my current Harley so I can get another one soon.

I also shot a vid and posted it on YouTube of the boots on the bike. I had always fantasized about the “boots on bike” thing since CHiPs back in the ’70s. I got to do my own. A nice ride in boots and leather on a nice day helped clear my head and prepare me for a difficult week ahead.

Riding in the cold

I love to ride my Harley, but when it’s really cold out, my current windscreen-less bike lets the cold air strike. But that’s what leather and tall boots are for!

I picked up my bike from a routine service visit late yesterday afternoon, when temps were above freezing, but barely so. I have to admit, under all that leather, I have on wool long johns, two t-shirts, and a flannel shirt. Layers indeed work best. And while this pic shows me in a Muir Cap, of course I wear a full-face helmet when I am on the road. That also provides protection from the biting cold.

As long as there isn’t ice, snow, or water on the roads, I’ll ride. Well, as long as it’s above freezing. Below that, no matter how much I bundle up, I just get too uncomfortable to enjoy the ride. Sooooooon… oh how I dream, Spring will break. Dream on! Let’s boot up and ride!
