Are Chippewa Boots Worth the Wait?

rp_Chipshine29.jpgChippewa boots, made in the USA, are good-quality boots. They make a very large number of models of boots from motorcycle, logger, packer, hiking, and work boot styles, among others.

I have always been amazed by the huge variety of boots that Chippewa offers. But that variety has its pluses and minuses — the worst of the negatives includes…

Leather and Boot Videos

VideolacebootsMostly between 2007 and 2011, I made a number of videos and posted them here on YouTube. The videos were, at first, displays of my boots, and then I produced several tutorials (lacing firefighter boots or breaking in Dehner boots, for example), or reviews about boots (boots for bikers, boots on a budget, etc.)

Some people have asked me, “why have you stopped making videos?” Answers…

Boot Reviews

MCbootsOver the years, I have purchased, worn, tried, and/or read about many different brands of boots. I have received a number of email messages asking me for opinions on this-or-that brand of boots, or from people who have said that my website or this blog helped them as they did research about boots.

In 2010, while confined at home to recover from an ankle break, I created my boots wiki that I thought could be a collaborative way for guys to contribute knowledge about boots. Well, the “contribution” part didn’t work. But the ability to add, edit, and display information continued.

So today, I have information about hundreds …

A Guy’s Daily Boot Care

Chipshinelug28I admit it — I am a typical guy when it comes to things like caring for boots. I don’t want to take time to strip wax, condition the leather, and build a mirror shine finish on my leather boots. Well, I have a few exceptions, but the general rule is: pull ’em on or lace ’em up, mount the saddle of my Harley, and be off.

Who wants to waste time shining boots? Conditioning leather? I have more important things to do than sit around fiddling with boot care products.

Yep, I’m a typical guy when it comes to this stuff. Many motorcops I know feel the same way.

So what does THIS Bootman do when confronted with questions via email asking, “since you have so many boots, you must care for them. What do you recommend?”

Comfortable Boots

BootstorageJan201502For a guy who owns hundreds of pairs of boots, one would think that I would only have boots that are comfortable. Well, mostly that is true, but not for all of them.

Especially now that two things have changed with time: boots age and insoles do not get any softer, and feet age and are not as flexible and tolerant of discomfort as they are when they were young. This is especially true for guys who go from a slim/trim/athletic 120 pounds in their early 20s to … well, middle-age spread. The more weight you carry, the more uncomfortable boots will become.

So here is how this more-than-middle-aged boot wearer deals with boot comfort issues…

Website Boot Pages With Highest Click Through Rate

I have an interesting non-invasive piece of software on all 729 of my website’s pages that gives me interesting summary information about website visits.

An intriguing detail shows the “click-through-rate” which my software defines as:

what percentage of people exposed to my website using Google for a given search actually clicked on the result for my website.

Here are the results of what types, styles, and manufacturers of boots draw the most visitors to pages on my website as a result of a google search.

Packing A Ride Into a Packed Weekend

Bikeme1One of my longest-held gripes about working full-time is that “they” have it all backwards. We should work two days and have five days for weekends. (LOL).

This past two days was packed, and involved managing a day of exceptional cold with snow flurries, work-booted demolition, dusty boot-n-wranglered supplies calculations, socks-with-sweats pasta making, chasing ten LOLITS, a ride on my Harley, electrical repair, hair chop, and even some “down time” with the spouse.

To give you a glimpse of what I do on weekends, read on…

A Booted Man

Meride1In thinking about what to write as I restart my musings on this blog, I reflect on what inspired my website’s name … bootedman.com.

It is amusing to think back to 2004 when I was diligently cataloging my boot collection, taking low-res digital photos of my boots, and using a primitive HTML coding processor offered by my ISP at the time (my cable TV provider.) As I was developing that crude first-attempt website, I had a number of conversations with Larry of hotboots.com fame, and his exceptionally creative and technically adept husband, Bill.

Bill urged me to create my very own website, on my own domain, and suggested ways that I could improve my web-building techniques.

So there I was, thinking to myself, “what web domain name would work for what I want to do, and what is not already taken?” I thought long and hard about myself…
