Strathcona Boots from Alberta Boot Company

strathcona_hibrownI have enjoyed conversations via email and phone with the President of Alberta Boot Company which is a family-owned bootmaker based in Calgary, Canada.

The Alberta Boot Company President contacted me when he found my Guide to Motorcycle Police Patrol Boots on an internet search.

Like others, I have seen and admired the Strathcona police patrol boot that this company makes, especially the “hi-brown” style worn by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. But I regret, until now, that I had not listed Alberta Boot Company on my Patrol Boot Guide. (That has been corrected.)

Through dialogue, I learned that the boots made by Alberta Boot Company…

Lacing Shafts of Patrol Boots

Cops54I received an email from a motor officer who works in a southern state’s motor unit (photo shown from Mid-Atlantic Motorcycle Police Competition of 2011 — not the unit of the officer who wrote to me.) The officers in his unit all wear the same style of patrol boot — Chippewa trooper boots. These boots have a laced instep and a laced closure at the top of each boot shaft.

He asked me for advice on how to lace the closures on the sides (shafts) of his boots so the laces will not come untied while riding. He said that the other cops in his unit have been doing different things, and he wanted to “ask an expert.”

I’m not quite an expert, but I guess with the number of boots that I own and show on my website, including a pair of the same boots, perhaps I can help.

However, most of my motorcycle police patrol boots have buckle closures at the top of the boot shafts. I prefer a buckle closure because it is cleaner and never requires much fuss. But to answer his question, I looked at what other cops who wear boots like his do…

Motocross Boots on Motorcops?

I stumbled upon some images yesterday that blew away the standard perception of traditional (U.S.) motorcycle police boots with a uniform. A real-live motor officer, based in a town in California, began illustrating new boots that he is wearing, and what he thinks about “traditional” motorboots worn by most U.S. motor officers. I was taken aback.

Boot Favorites

A good friend of mine recently asked me, “Do you have a very very favorite pair of boots (cowboy or otherwise)? Like, the “bury me in these” boots?”

He said that it would be really hard for him to make a choice, and the same is true for me. I can’t say that I have one particular pair of boots that are my absolutely favorites, but here are some of my top choices.

American Cops and Leather

I am not a cop, but I ride with some motorcops as friends. I also work in my community with local cops on various task forces and community events. Recently, I served as one of about 40 judges for a police motorcycle riding competition held in the hot days of August.

A friend emailed me to say that he was sorry that “American cops do not wear leather… even in winter.” He is right. There are some reasons why…

Boots of the Past Two Weeks

Note: a technical error in this post prevented it from appearing completely. I found the error and fixed it on the evening of September 1. If you visited this post before that and it looked weird or ended abruptly, please read on… the error is gone.)

This is a catch-up post, describing what boots I wore while on my business trip out west during the week of August 18 – 22, then my daily boots through Saturday, August 30. Here goes…

Cops: Booted, Not Wet

Yesterday, I served as a judge once again at a large police motorcycle riding competition that is held in the general area where I live (though rather far away.) The weather was damp, though fortunately, hard rain held off during the morning competition. I enjoyed serving as a timing judge this time.

81 motor officers participated, yet the main competition during the morning was completed by 1100. Then we broke for an early lunch.

Right after lunch, jet lag caught up with me real badly, so since I wasn’t really needed again, I went home — and good timing — the skies opened up and it rained all afternoon.

I saw lots of cops and tall black boots. Samples follow…

Up Your Dehner

Hmmm… I thought the subject line of this post might attract some interest.

Yep, Saturday was a date with dress instep Dehners that a cop had me break in for him. I shined ’em up and broke the ankles manually (for straight creases at the ankles.)

This is how these boots looked from…
