Did you get the plate of that truck that hit me? I ask because…

Diverting Thought With Memories
I am heartbroken about recent devastation wreaked upon places where I have worked, trained, and supported on over 20 visits throughout my working career. There is little I can do at this stage of my life and work situation other than make financial donations and approve waivers of bureaucratic policies that would otherwise be enforced.
So while my heart is in the Caribbean, I am taking time out to divert my sadness with more pleasant memories. I cannot believe it was exactly eight weeks ago today that…

Why Are Bikers Older?
Or… “why are there fewer young motorcycle riders?”
My friend WC asked me
Why are bikers an aging population, and why aren’t there more bikers on real bikes (not crotch-rockets)?
Hmmm… while I may not choose to ride a “crotch-rocket” (that is, a small motorcycle built for speed), they are motorcycles nonetheless. So to the first question…

Cop-Filled Day of Fun
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of serving among the cadre of judges for a motorcycle police “skills competition,” otherwise known as a “police rodeo.” This was the 39th year for this event, and the 15th at which I have served as a Lead Judge.
For many hours, I was surrounded by…

Protective Motorcycle Gear
I participated in a focus group the other night about the kinds of motorcycle gear worn these days. It was interesting to see what non-biker researchers wanted to know. I cannot reveal information about what we discussed, but generally what I heard is consistent with what I see among my fellow biker friends who are not “hot dogs” and are generally safe, sane, and experienced riders.
I mentioned my participation in this group to my friend WC who asked…

Booted in Breeches
While things have been busy in the BHD world, I was able to get out for an early morning ride to one of my favorite places with my favorite biker cousin last Saturday. Since my work shift was scheduled from noon to midnight, yet I was awake as usual at oh-dark-30, and The Spouse was feeling lousy so he wanted to rest, I thought…

September 11, 1998
I know, most of you are saying when you read this, “don’t you have the date wrong?” After all, this is year 2017!
No? Still not what the year should be? Then why did you post 1998?

Boots On The Ground
I have always had a sly smile when I hear people say, “we have boots on the ground,” or “we need more boots on the ground.” Those references have been mostly about deployments of active duty military men and women, but the expression has extended nowadays to refer to any type of event or activity where additional trained personnel are needed.
After one long weekend off duty to drive that long slog of a roundtrip drive to Pittsburgh to work 16-hour days with home repairs and landscaping requirements for the mother-in-law, I have returned to my home base where…
