I was at a meeting in downtown Washington DC yesterday, and someone said something to me that I found amusing.
Setting: auditorium where people are gathering to listen to presentations that are rather geeky, but in my field. I was invited to join the panel as a “respondent,” meaning that after the speakers completed their presentations, I would join three people from other agencies to respond and engage a dialogue.
I was wearing the requisite jacket and tie, dress slacks, and a good-looking pair of black Lucchese hornback caiman boots.
Out of the blue, a gentleman came up to me and said,
“Oh, you’re that smiling boot guy.”
Huh?

Greetings on so-called “Cyber Monday” which follows “Black Friday,” “Small Business Saturday,” and whatever Sunday was.
I have been asked, “you have such a large collection of boots. How do you ensure you wear them?”
Today, Monday October 12, is a lesser-known U.S. Federal Holiday, and I have the day off from work.
I have been looking at the results of weekly statistics of the most viewed pages on this blog. Those stats are developed by a nifty unobtrusive snip of software that collects information on what pages are most visited. Rest assured, it does not track you personally; it just tracks pages on the blog that are frequently visited and what web sources they come from.
