Booted for Spring

Despite Old Man Winter struggling to hang on, at least in the upper Midwestern USA today where up to 15 inches of snow is in the forecast, down here in the Mid-Atlantic, Spring has arrived. Sure, we will have some cool days and nights, but we also are having more warmer days with bright sunshine, flowers, and tons of motorcycles on the roads! Woo-hoo!

So what boots are on my feet in Spring?

…well, of course, motorcycle boots! Well… not always and not every day any more. Because I gave up riding in the dark, I no longer commute to work on my Harley. I sure miss it, but promised The Spouse that I would not risk my life again to ride when visibility is diminished. Heck, most hand-holding sillyphone texter/readers/yappers behind the wheel can’t see the broad side of a barn in daylight, much less a motorcycle.

But when I do ride — weekends mostly now — I choose my still all-time favorites, Chippewa Firefighter Boots and their back-up Chip brothers, Chippewa harness boots. Not to say that I don’t wear any others, but these are my most frequent go-to boots when I ride.

When not riding my Harley, weekends will also find me wearing work boots while working in my yard or assisting family or friends with home repair projects. Lately, I have found Timberlands or tactical boots to be most comfortable. Loggers are a wee bit too warm this time of year, though if I will be working in wet/muddy conditions, then I’ll choose them. Otherwise, while mowing the lawn, repairing the decks, powerwashing the siding, etc., tactical boots are water-resistant, cool, and comfortable.

Monday-Friday finds me slaving away in my office job. Shirt & tie with dress slacks is most often the uniform of the day in my supervisory management position; fortunately, I do not have to wear a jacket. Yuck. I hate wearing jackets, suits, or “sport coats.” Bleccchhhh…. so uncomfortable, warm, and useless. (BTW, if I don’t have meetings w/mgmt, I often shuck the tie, too. I have a hook on the back of my office door brimming over with ’em.)

I choose dressy exotic skin cowboy boots of which I have dozens of choices, and every now and then, mix it up with dress leather cowboy boots, too.

Yes, I am still rockin’ the boots in the office every day. What do others say?

Other than the occasional “boot bounce” (eyes glancing at my boots), no one says a thing. As it should be. I wear boots. That’s it, plain and simple.

Life is short: when you own a large boot collection, wear ’em!
