Boots of the Past Week

Following is a recap of the boots that I wore during the past week. As always, it’s great to have a large and varied boot collection to choose the right boot for the right application.

Saturday 31 May

I began the day with my usual long, fast-paced walk with my senior walking partner. I wore Chippewa Hikers.

Chippitstop23When I got back from my walk, I showered, enjoyed a snuggle with my spouse, then changed into Chippewa cowboy/work boots. I prepared breakfast, then got to work installing rain barrels on my property. After that, I changed to regular engineer boots, hopped on the Harley, and went to some senior pals’ homes to do some repairs for them.

LegendarythumbI returned home by noon. I prepared lunch for my spouse and me, then cleaned up. Quick shower, then dress slacks, shirt, and tie. Pulled on my Legendary cowboy boots… and drove to a church to observe the marriage ceremony for a cousin. I did not go to the reception — I dislike dress-up parties — so I was home just 90 minutes later.

Ditched the dress clothes, pulled on a pair of tan Lucchese ostrich boots with jeans and a t-shirt, then took a couple senior pals grocery shopping.

Wescoburlap11After the fun of grocery shopping was over, I changed boots again to burlap-colored short Wesco engineer boots and rode out to arrange to purchase a replacement seat for my bike. My old seat is falling apart. I need a new one.

When I got back home, I prepared dinner on the grill and my spouse and I enjoyed a cool, comfortable evening on our deck. I am feeling better because my spouse is looking and acting a bit better.

Cleaned up after dinner, and we just lingered on the deck until dark. Then to bed by the usual 2030.

Sunday 1 June

Another long walk at oh-dark-30 with my senior walking pal. The usual Chippewa Hikers on my feet. Home by dawn, spouse still sleeping. Showered, changed to “regular biker” gear (kevlar jeans and long-sleeved shirt.)

Chipharness99I decided that I wanted to wear my Chippewa Harness Boots, but they were really dirty. I removed the surface dirt, but the boots were still quite bad looking, so I got out the wax and buff kit, and shined them up. While I don’t like to shine boots, they came out great!

My spouse was still asleep, so I did some quiet work until he awoke.

Prepared four-flour waffles and hot rabbit food for him. I had an egg, toast, OJ, and milk. Yep, milk. No coffee. I don’t drink the stuff.

The spouse was feeling better, so I took him outside to show him the rain barrel setup. He liked it, but then he saw some low-hanging branches on a tree and asked me to remove them… then those branches, too. Then those, and others, and… and… and…

Justinwork16Before I got so involved in much more work than I expected, and not wanting to mess up my freshly-shined harness boots, I dashed into the basement and found the closest pair of work boots that I could find — Justins. I laced them up and spent about an hour trimming trees.

After the tree-trimming work, I put my harness boots back on. Went into the garage and did my full weekly T-CLOCS inspection of my motorcycle. Air low on the rear tire? Again? Really? Fixed that… though it is a PITA to do that at home.

Rode to southern Pennsylvania to visit with an old pal, collaborator, and friend with whom I used to work for ages in my past life. It was a terrific day, weather-wise for a long motorcycle ride. Up in sixth gear and cruise control… what a great ride and good visit with my friend!

When I arrived home, it was dinner time. I prepared dinner for my spouse and myself. After cleanup, I changed… shorts and socks. Peaceful evening holding my spouse’s hand while he watched drivel on TV and I zoned out. To bed by the usual 2030.

Monday 2 June

Twcowboy03Great day to ride the Harley to work at oh-dark-30. Wore my Tidewater cowboy boots with dress tan khakis, white shirt, brown striped tie. Many meetings. Meetings-r-us!

Home early at 1330. Time to take the spouse to the doctor for a routine follow-up visit.

Luctanwing01My feet had been getting a bit warm, so I decided to pull off the Tidewaters and pull on a pair of looser-fitting Lucchese brown/black wingtip cowboy boots. Also took off the tie, white shirt, and khakis and wore jeans and a non-animaled polo shirt.

Went to the doctor… nothing much resulted. Home. Dinner. Cleanup. Boots off, shorts on, relax & talk, then to bed by the usual 2030.

Tuesday 3 June

Mexost14Storms forecast for the early afternoon meant that I had to take my truck to work. I wore navy blue slacks, blue shirt, and Largato full-quill cognac ostrich cowboy boots. Work-work-work all day.

Home by the usual 1545. Changed to jeans, t-shirt, and comfy Justin knock-about cowboy boots. Visited one senior pal’s home to fix a broken switch.

Doublehgelice08Home by 1730, prepared dinner for my spouse and myself. After dinner, changed to Double H western work boots. Went to the local building supplies retailer to get some stuff… always “stuff.” Much “stuff.” (Glad I own stock in that retailer!)

Back home again by 1930… unloaded the truck. Showered (I worked up quite a sweat!), and padded around in my bathrobe and socks until the usual 2030 bedtime.

Wednesday 4 June

LosAltosPython02Forecast for strong midday storms mean that I had to drive the truck to work at oh-dark-30. But consistent the day’s blog post about harness boots, I wore my Los Altos python harness boots with blue slacks and an ivory shirt, no tie. No one said anything about the boots all day. No big deal. Worked hard all day, but home by 1545.

Chipfire302Changed to jeans, fire department polo shirt, and Chippewa smooth-soled firefighter boots — planning to go to a meeting at the local fire department after dinner.

While I was putzing around before dinner, I heard a Harley’s engine rumbling in the driveway. My friend JB dropped by to show me his new Harley. Unfortunately, he was not wearing boots, so I got him booted correctly!

Prepared dinner for my spouse and me, and ensuring that my spouse was stable, I went to my meeting. Got back about 2015, then off to bed by the usual 2030.

Thursday 5 June

Lucblackgoat03Blue striped shirt, red patterned tie, black slacks, and black dress Lucchese goatskin cowboy boots. Weather unsuitable for riding the Harley to work.

When the boss arrived, we gave each other a double-take — he was wearing identical clothes (blue striped shirt, red patterned tie, black slacks), including black cowboy boots! Man, it was like we planned this. Several people commented throughout the day, “oh, there are the (program name) twins!” It was amusing.

Worked all day, home by 1630 due to a late meeting at the office.

I was tired and decided that I would not go to a community gripe session (local association meeting) after dinner. I changed to shorts, t-shirt, and padded around the rest of the evening in socks. Prepared dinner for my spouse and me, then did work for my professional association on the laptop while the spouse watched drivel on TV. To bed by the usual 2030.

Friday 6 June

Chipostrichengineer02Harley day to work! Finally! In respect for “dress down Friday” as well as an office clean-up day (to get a desk ready for a new staff member coming to work for me on Monday), I wore clean denim jeans, an agency logo polo shirt, and 11″ black ostrich Chippewa engineer boots.

Worked until 1400, then took off early. Rode home.

Wescoboss1101Changed my shirt and boots. Those short Chippewas are awfully tight on the ankles. I pulled on my short Wesco engineer boots instead.

Got into my truck and took the spouse with me to a lumber yard where I took delivery of a load of a special order of #1 red oak. I am building something… and this is gonna be a sweet piece of furniture when I’m done!

Home by dinnertime. Grilled steaks and prepared sides. My spouse and I enjoyed a nice evening on the deck listening to the birds sing. Didn’t say much, just held hands.

Got annoyed with mosquitos so we went inside and watched TV for a while, then to bed by 2100.

Saturday 7 June

Chiphiker02Began the day as usual wearing my Chippewa hikers, jeans, t-shirt, and took a six-mile walk with my senior walking pal.

Showered but didn’t get dressed yet… wrote this post, then I plan to jump into bed with my spouse and plan our day. I love the early morning time, looking out the back floor-to-ceiling panorama windows at our forest as the sun rises.

We have lots of work to do today, but check back next week to see how I was booted. Riding with cops tomorrow… should be fun.

Life is short: wear boots!

  1. And what a week that was! Thursday’s child had far to go and did it with style in the Lucchese goatskins. What fun that your boss was channeling a twin vibe. Always enjoy your real life stories and the boot photos as well. You DO have an enriched life and seem to enjoy every minute. Be well! ARken
