Motorcop Compliment

We have been enjoying unseasonably warm weather in our neck of the woods. With daytime temperatures in the high 80s (~31C), my Harley has been my constant companion and form of transportation. Glad to be back on the saddle again.

While I was out and about, a local motor officer rode up next to me and we soon came to a stop at a traffic signal. He looked over at me, recognized me, smiled broadly, and said, …

“Good to see you!”

“Likewise! Great day for a ride!”

Then he frowned and said, “except for the idiots that warm weather brings out on motorcycles. Sorry to see many guys in shorts, sneakers and flip-flops!”

I shrugged and said, “Darwin Award contenders, eh?”

He laughed and said, “just good to see you’re not among them. Good to see a biker in sturdy boots, long pants, helmet, and even a jacket and gloves.”

Yep, that’s me. ATGATT — All The Gear, All The Time.

The light was about to change, and I said, “ATGATT! Have a good day and thanks for your service!”

To that he smiled, waved, and motored off.

What boots was I wearing? A sturdy pair of tall Chippewa engineers, but with jeans over them. I was rather warm and was considering removing the jacket, but with the officer’s encouragement, I kept it on and made sure the ventilation zips were fully open.

Nice to be complimented by a professional from time to time.

Life is short: share knowing smiles with a cop.
