BHD Video Removal Notice

Ol’ Booted Harleydude produced a bunch of videos back in the day about boots and leather. Some of the videos were just for fun; some were tutorials, such as tips on breaking in new Dehner Patrol Boots or ordering Wesco Boots.

Those “old” videos were posted between six and 12 years ago. The collection is here.

Today I just caught up with comments on those videos, some of which have been waiting in moderation for a year. Obviously, I don’t check that YouTube channel often.

Unsurprisingly, about half of those comments were…

…written by homophobes and generally hateful people who have nothing better to do but troll videos and attempt to insult me. Actually, what they are doing is revealing their own ignorance and poor education. Those comments were held for review. When I read them, the silly, negative, and ignorant comments were removed and the person who posted the comment was blocked.

A few other comments revealed more ignorance — no, it is NOT illegal to wear a CHP uniform if you are not a sworn peace officer as long as two major factors are met: 1) you do not wear it in California (that is, you cannot wear a uniform in the same jurisdiction where it is worn by real officers) and 2) you do not try to act (impersonate) a police officer. I explain these factors more in this old blog post. Sorry that some people get on their high horse and claim that wearing a uniform is illegal in all circumstances in all locations. Not true.

Also, I was not surprised, but more amused, on how many comments on leather-related videos made references to The Village People which I discussed recently on this blog, here. It is really hard for hateful homophobes to give up on a false perception and ignorance.

Regardless, there are a lot better videos now on YT that I ever made. I am not interested in nor have time to produce updated videos.

So this is notice that effective 1 January 2020, I intend to remove most of my old videos from BHD’s YT channel. I will keep the most popular ones (Dehner boot sizing and station boot lacing).

If you have a recommendation about a video or two that I produced in the past (six to 12 years ago) that you want me to keep, please comment below. Otherwise, “poof” — it will be gone as of 1 January 2020.

Life is short: reduce your life of old clutter.
