Bears Ears and Escalante

It is hard for me to believe, but just four months ago, my buddy “S” and I were on the most crazy-awesome motorcycle adventure in Utah. Friday, 28 July, was when we rode 321 miles through the Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument land areas of Utah. S recently sent me a shirt (shown here) as a thank-you for our fun times. (Thank YOU, S, for going with me and your safe and sane riding!)

Back to the ride 28 July segment of our ride… we rode in a monsoon for half of it … but nonetheless, a highly…

…memorable ride on this awesome adventure.

What impressed me most was how quiet and still everything was. We would ride through vast open land and except for perhaps one car every half-hour, we were all alone on Utah Highway 95 and Scenic Byway Utah 12.

We stopped every now-and-then for photos, including the Colorado River crossing. That area was beautiful.

The Capitol Reef National Park is inside the Grand Staircase National Monument, and is more of a hiking area than a park-like visiting area. (This is where S and I pulled on our rain gear, because the rain was constant and looked like hours more to have to ride through.)

I regret that I do not have as many photos of these national monuments than I had hoped to have — especially video — but when one has to concentrate on survival, there is little time for photos or video.

But what I regret most is that my fears are now being realized. I chose to route our ride through these areas because I wanted to see them when they were still Federal Protected Lands as a part of the National Monuments of our great nation.

Now the Destroyer-in-Chief and his henchman, the evil Interior Secretary who is all about supporting the oil, gas, and mining industries, as well as the evil Senator in the pocket of environmental destroying donors, are out to desecrate the environment for profit by scaling back these land protections by 85%.

While I seldom quote current events or politics on this blog, read this:

Trump is scheduled to visit the state on Monday, when he will announce a plan to reduce the size of Bears Ears and Staircase-Escalante National Monuments by nearly two-thirds. Those monuments were designated by former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, respectively.

Trump’s move would be the first such act by a president in half a century. Environmentalists and tribal leaders have decried the decision as illegal and an affront to Native Americans.

Leaked documents obtained by The Associated Press show that Trump plans to shrink Bears Ears National Monument by nearly 85 percent and reduce Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by almost half.

I am angry, upset, and so disillusioned with these assholes… I have no more words. Throw away protections of our environment, all to make profits. I have donated to Native American groups who are suing the Government about this, as a small way to show my support for their actions. But the Destroyer-In-Chief and his evil profittakers can do whatever they want without limit.

Life is short: remember when America used to be Great and led by people with intelligence, not morons.
