16 Hour Work Days

I have been working 16- (or more) hour days since last week, doing…

…both my own job as Acting Boss, and detailed to assist with my professional skill set with my employer.

I cannot say what I am doing without revealing too much about my job and where I work.

Let’s just say that the dress code of jeans, work shirts, and comfortable boots (Chip Firefighters, what else?) makes the long days tolerable.

I will have the upcoming Labor Day weekend off, but only because I had a trip planned (and pre-approved) to drive The Spouse to his mother’s home near Pittsburgh for a long weekend of more work.

These long days of active on-the-feet work are exhausting. There is nothin’ like jumping into it again after years of not having to run when the bell rings. This time, that bell rang and I was quickly identified as a long-term pro who can help without having to “spin up”. In another cliche, I can “hit the ground running.” Yep, been there, done that.

Years ago and in another life, I actually flew into those things in the picture above. It was nothing for me to work 7 days a week, 20 hours a day and be bounced around in concussion-inducing turbulence (if I weren’t belted in sideways from Sunday).

Now that I am much, much older, those long days are much harder to handle. So far, though, I am surviving.

I regret that my boots and I have to take a break from blogging, at least until I return from the MIL’s visit, then see what next week brings, which may indeed be more of the same.

Life is short: apply your skills and do your duty, both professionally and personally.
