People around the world are watching closely what is going on (or not going on) in the U.S. Congress regarding the exceptionally divisive battle over the U.S. Federal Government budget. It is ugly, awful, and downright shameful how each side of the political spectrum blames the other for the mess they brought on to all of the world. The world economy is already suffering and will get worse with a looming shutdown of the Federal Government.
How will that affect me?
I am among more than 800,000 “innocent victims” of their shenanigans. Yep, this weekend’s Senate action lobbed the ball back into the House of (non)-Representatives court, which due to their hard-nosed, childish trantrums in refusing to accept a law passed in 2010, the rest of us around the world get shafted, right in the economy.
I will have to engage in “Plan B.” I have an alternate personal plan for work that will enable me to keep working and earning my pay. But hundreds of thousands of others do not have that option.
I hear stories on the local news from people that reporters inevitably find who say that they live paycheck to paycheck, and are tinkering on the brink of going into personal default on bills. Some will extend their credit beyond their means to cover the gap. Some will not be able to get credit and possibly they will lose everything, including their home. (That is provided that the Congressional fiasco continues for an extended time and they don’t get a paycheck for a long time.)
However, since my spouse and I live a practical life and plan for contingencies, we have a “rainy day fund” in which my spouse and I have saved one year’s worth of expenses. It is in a simple savings account, so it is not subject to downturns in the stock market which are inevitable.
We will survive just fine. Sure, no one likes to be put into this situation, but until these bozos are voted off the island, we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place with no reasonable exit while watching the world economy tank. I am so ashamed, appalled, and embarrassed as a citizen of the United States.
Life is short: vote. Vote them ALL off the island. The Martians have refused to take them, so I vote to restore Pluto to planetary status for their banishment.
