My mind is diverted and has been for a while. Not much heart in blogging about boots and leather when there are more important things going on.
My Spouse is dealing with supporting his Mom as she endures a long, slow, decline. He has…
…received several emergency phone calls about his Mom, who still lives in her own house 250 miles away in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After careful listening and validation by health care professionals, we have determined that she has had multiple transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) which are sorta like “mini strokes.” She has been found on the floor by her bed and can’t remember how she got there.
Spouse has arranged in-home hospice care and overnight elder-sitting.
He promised his Mom that she could stay in her own home for the rest of her life. We feel that her situation will soon end peacefully. We really don’t know how much longer, and she is a real trooper, rallying strength we didn’t know she had. But I have to admit, this time I feel that death is near — the circle of life soon to complete.
No wailing; no hysterics. No useless “thoughts and prayers.” Just peace.
Life is short: always, always, show those you love how you love them. Each and every day.
