Last Group Ride of the Season

I finally had nice (enough) weather to lead a ride for my club on Sunday. I had planned to lead it Saturday before last, but got rained out. I rescheduled to the Monday holiday, but that ride also got rained out.

However, dry weather prevailed yesterday, albeit rather cool and windy. It didn’t get above 56F (13C), but that’s well within the range of a full-leather ride. So…

I pulled on my thick LAPD leather breeches, lug-soled Dehner patrol boots with thick wool socks, a t-shirt, full leather shirt, and my Langlitz Columbia jacket.

We rode to the north-central part of my home state to ride through an historic covered bridge, then east across the Catoctin Ridge (where Camp David, the historic Presidential Maryland mountain retreat is located), to a picturesque small town where we stopped for lunch at a diner.

Then we rode back through more small towns, including the town where the Blair Witch Project was filmed, then down south and back home. About 140 miles (225km) on a really nice, sunny day made the countryside changeover to autumn a nice sight. Our state is not at peak change of leaf color, but we could see typical (for us) autumn color of brown corn stalks and dulling green-to-yellow on the deciduous trees.

As usual, my GPS led me astray a few times, but my fellow riders were very accommodating to my penchant for getting lost. We had a great time. Photos of me at that covered bridge are below.
