Regular readers of this blog know that I do not follow sports of any sort, and generally am clueless about sports. However, of all sports, baseball is something that I don’t mind watching under the right circumstances.
On Sunday, my spouse and I went to watch our local major league baseball team in action at the stadium in Washington, DC.
How did that happen?
A former boss is a season ticket holder. He regularly offered his employees two tickets to various games throughout the season. I had never taken him up on his offer, but this year, when the tickets were offered in March, I asked for tickets to a Sunday afternoon game. My choice was for the timing — it is much easier to go to an weekend afternoon game than a game during the week held in the evening. (I can’t stay awake late, remember?)
With tickets in hand and Spouse seated next to me (in my truck), I drove to the ballpark. Parking was included. The only time we went there before, we had to take Metro (subway) and the crowds were awful. This time, though slow, getting there and getting home was much easier.
The seats were great — in a shaded section of the ballpark. While it was very hot and humid, there was a mild breeze, which helped. Due to the hot weather, of course I was the only one wearing boots, but I expected that. Way too many silly flip-flops on men, but … whatever … sigh.
Watching the game was an interesting way to spend an afternoon. I give my spouse lots of credit for answering all of my questions. I really don’t know much about the game and how it is played, so Spouse informed me well. I appreciated that, because it make the game more enjoyable to watch.
I even witnessed a Grand Slam — a home run hit when the bases were loaded. Wow — never saw that before!
So the weekend was not all work in the yard. We had a great time.
Life is short: enjoy opportunities like this when you can.
I am glad that you had a great time at the baseball game. You are continuing your legacy as a 2 percenter by wearing boots at the baseball game while many of those guys and women too were wearing those ugly ass looking and worse sounding flip-flops. I never told you this but whenever I see men wearing flip-flops, it seems like they have to wear the loudest sounding flip-flops ever. GROSS!!! But like you said, WHATEVER!!! I hope you go to more baseball games in the future.
BHD, I’m sure you were very appropriately attired in some suitable boots for watching baseball. But if you really want to be with the “in-booted crowd”, try attending a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra concert. The last time I did, there were men in fashionable cowboy boots all over Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. You’d have been right at home there.
