Can’t wait ’til my new job starts a week from today. Mind you, I enjoyed my old job, too, but the contract for that work ended yesterday (March 31) and the new contract for the new job doesn’t start until one week from today. So this week, I can take my time to be fitted for a new wardrobe of suits and accessories to go with them.
Why am I selecting new suits and accessories?
The new job is a promotion, and serving once again in management, I have to dress the part. So I will be suited-every-day, with accessories to match.
I have to admit, I only owned one “go-to-funeral” suit. It was rather old and no longer fit me well, particularly in the shoulders. It was restricting and looked downright ghastly when I tried it on again yesterday. I figure with mix-and-match as men can do with suits, I only need three suits to start: one in navy blue, one in grey, and another in a pinstripe blue/grey pattern.
I have a very nice men’s dress watch, so I don’t have to get one of those. But my ties are kinda old and drab, so I plan to pick up at least a dozen fine silk ties while at the store when I am being fitted for my new suits. I don’t know if pocket squares are in fashion today, but I will probably pick up a few. I so love this added fashion feature.
A few dress belts that fit will also be important. I’m not really one for cufflinks, so I think I will skip those. But I could probably find a few new tie clasps that will be attractive.
And the shoes! Can’t forget the dress shoes! Norstrom’s is having a “buy 1 pair at the regular $495/pair price, get another for 33% off” sale. What a deal! I plan to buy two pairs of cap toe oxfords and two pairs of brougham wingtips in black and brown to accessorize my new suits correctly.
What else will I need?

… a booted kick in the ass back to reality.
Okay, it is April 1. Once again, all I can say is, “APRIL FOOLS!” While my job is indeed in transition, the new job will not require dressing as a clone. No suits. No ties. No pocket squares. No dress shoes. Thank goodness! I have a rep to protect!
Life is short: enjoy April Fools Day!
