Today, February 14, is Valentine’s Day. A day when romance is in the air, and marketing and advertising focuses on romantic love.
My wish today for Valentine’s Day is actually for you.
My wish for you is:
- to have the deep, abiding, thoughtful and enduring love that my fiance and I share.
- that your lover respects you as my lover respects me.
- that your Valentine smiles at you the way my Valentine smiles at me… with warmth and dedication, passion and commitment.
- that your best half is actually your best half — one who completes your soul and your very essence of being.
- that your partner matches a commitment to integrity, honesty, and financial security as my partner has matched mine.
- that your passion is equally matched by the passion of your lover, mirroring the passion in the relationship that I share with my fiance.
- that your lifemate walks by your side as my lifemate walks with me as we make the bootprints of our journey together through life.

Your amazing gift of words inspires me, always. Today, the day before I go on another probably grueling field assignment in my voluntary position, I took the day to show my love — my wife — how much I love her. I got up early, prepared breakfast for her, then we went on a stroll through the ancient ruins of Rome, where I read her love poems by Cattulus, Ovid, and Virgil that you shared with me.
While I did not study Latin as you did, I think my wife was truly touched, thanks to you.
I wish the best for you and my brother-in-law always. We love you dearly.

I am fortunate to be blessed with a wonderful wife of 16 years.
I celebrated her uniqueness this morning: she is not a fan of chocolate, and I gave her flowers a couple of weeks ago (long story). So she got what she loves: wheat thins, dip for crackers, bacon, and horseradish cheese!
