Happy Easter, loyal blog readers! Today is a great day to visit family, most of whom will be in their “Sunday best.” I guess I’ll join ’em by wearing my “Sunday leathers and boots.” More on that in a bit.
Some of you may have noticed that I have not posted much about wearing boots lately. I have to admit something having to do with a rather persistent personal medical situation…
…has put a damper on wearing boots taller than my ankles. Yeah, unfortunately, within the last several months, my chronic health condition has caused more leg swelling than I’ve ever had before. Having donated a kidney to my sister 30 years ago, what kidney I have left doesn’t process liquids as well as two would, so I have occasional consequences.
I saw a doctor who reviewed test results (of tests I would permit and that do not involve a needle) that showed that my blood pressure is normal, my blood sugar and A1C is “within normal limits,” and otherwise, I’m generally okay, but apparently my circulation isn’t so good so my lower legs have swollen — mostly later in the day.
I have been more aggressively walking and exercising, including swimming when I can. At work, I walk the stairs in the high-rise building in which I work instead of use the elevator (most of the time, anyway) to get between my office and other floors for incessant meetings.
However, the doctor who saw me struggle to remove my Lucchese cowboy boots during the last exam said, “you should wear just regular shoes or sneakers so you don’t squeeze your legs and slow down circulation by wearing those boots.” (The “those boots” was said with a sneer.)
I knew it would come to this sometime. Yeah, I guess he’s right. So today while dressing up for Easter, I thought I would go with the latest fashion trend, as shown here.
Whaddya think? Cool, eh?
AAAACCCK! NO FRIGGIN’ WAY! If I’m going to wear wingtip dress shoes, at least I am going to wear knee-length black dress socks!
Better?
Oh, what’s today?
Life is short: wear BOOTS!
I love you dude.
And yep, because it is Easter, I fell for your old joke this year. Ya got me.
I am a diabetic and wear support hose . May I suggest over the calf support dress sock these will be dressy and help improve your swelling
This was an April Fools post. Since I always wear boots, my socks don’t show. I choose three-fiber socks for comfort, not for “dressy.” Thanks anyway.
