We had a busy, productive, and happy weekend at the ol’ BHD/BB ranch. Saturday, I took the day off from the usual hustle and bustle of chasing lolits, and took my spouse to a car show.
How did we get there?
I drove my truck. My spouse cannot sit in a regular car any more due to the degradation of his hips cause by toxins from his two-year illness. Day 6 of no symptoms… counting to 60 before we can use the “R-word” and begin a dialogue about surgery on the hips. Or not… the spouse will decide.
Anyway, the spouse was feeling good and I drove him to see a car show that he had been wanting to see for several years. We enjoyed seeing the vintage vehicles on display, though my spouse was rather disappointed because the show was portrayed to be bigger than it actually was.
But the best thing was getting my spouse out of the house. Other than to doctor’s appointments, he has not been out for anything fun for a long time. We had a great day, including lunch at the diner that I took my motorcycle club to last week.
Sunday, I walked my usual 10 miles with my senior walking partner. Great, cool morning made the pre-dawn to dawn walk quite enjoyable.
I returned by 7am, and found the spouse up and dressed already. I prepared four-flour waffles for him and cereal (rabbit food.) I had an egg, toast, and OJ.
I then got busy practicing what I preach. I had ten 10-year old smoke alarms in my house. I replaced each one of them. It is important to replace smoke alarms every 10 years because the sensors inside them age and become less effective.
Replacing each alarm took only 3 minutes a piece. It took more time to move the ladder and get set up between each one. But the whole process took just 90 minutes. Now my spouse and I are safer in the place we feel safest (our own home!)
I then spent the rest of the day with a buddy who was overseeing a total rehab of a senior’s house to make it more accommodating for her as she ages. Together with 30 volunteers, we did a lot of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and general cleanup. A very productive day!
Following are some photos of my spouse (and me) at the car show and also showing what I preach — testing a smoke alarm once each month!
Life is short: love life, fill it with smiles, and be safe!
