Boo

Good day, the day after all hallows’ eve. So if yesterday were “all hallows’ eve,” then today must be All Hallows Day. What’s a Hallow, anyway? So I had to look it up… of course, it refers to “all saints day” and is a religious thing. Not following organizing religion, I had to search the internet for an explanation.

So what did we do on All Hallows’ Eve? What did we wear? Where did we go?

…nowhere, nada. I wore fuzzy soft sweats, socks, and a t-shirt.

What, no costume? No party? No handing out candy to the kids?

Well, no. But I have a good excuse. Halloween evening found me in the living room of my mother-in-law’s house. I drove to Pittsburgh on Saturday, did my usual home chores and cooking, stayed overnight, and today as you read this, I am driving my spouse back home. Yay! I get my hunkadorable spouse back after his week of tending to his Mom. The regular caregiver will return for three weeks this time. Yay again… the spouse gets a longer break and can return to his studies and quietude.

Back to Halloween: my mother-in-law hates interaction with people. She is neurotic and thinks that everybody is out to get her. She thinks that kids coming to the door at Halloween are out to cause more harm than just have some fun. In a way, I can understand that due to the hard-scrabble neighborhood where she lives. The kids around there, if there are any, are older and shouldn’t be going out trick-or-treating, anyway. So she told us not to get any candy or answer the door. We sat in the dark and watched a Hallmark “witch” movie on TV.

I am sorry that was not at home to hand out treats to the neighborhood kids. I enjoy that. I usually dress as a cop or in full leather, which to the kids is a costume. But not this year. No Halloween for us.

But as I said — YAY! I get my beloved spouse back hooooooooooooommmmme!

Life is short: make your holiday one to share with the one you love.
