{"id":950,"date":"2010-10-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2010-10-09T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bootedmanblog.com\/?p=950"},"modified":"2010-10-09T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T08:00:00","slug":"thanking-my-community-heroes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bootedmanblog.com\/?p=950","title":{"rendered":"Thanking My Community Heroes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">It&#8217;s the last day of Fire Prevention Week here in the good ol&#8217; USA.&nbsp; Throughout the week, I have been doing a number of things related to fire safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Last Saturday, I went on a <a href=\"http:\/\/bootedharleydude.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/paying-tribute.html\">major motorcycle ride<\/a> in honor of fallen firefighters.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">On Sunday, I brought my partner to the bedroom, blindfolded him, and turned off the lights.&nbsp; Then I yelled &#8220;fire&#8221; and we practiced our home fire drill.&nbsp; (Get your mind out of the gutter!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I visited senior pals and changed batteries or entire smoke alarms as needed.&nbsp; Smoke alarms last only ten years, so if the alarm was older, I put up a new one.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">Also on Wednesday, I had a chimney sweep come to our house and clean our chimney, and a service technician check over our furnace as winter heating season will soon be upon us. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">On Thursday, I dropped by my local fire station for a visit, and to thank the firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics who are there every day protecting us.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_yytsDp42pSs\/TK4VQ-sy6fI\/AAAAAAAAClo\/tzu75oeqM1k\/s1600\/Firethankblog.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"256\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/_yytsDp42pSs\/TK4VQ-sy6fI\/AAAAAAAAClo\/tzu75oeqM1k\/s400\/Firethankblog.jpg?resize=400%2C256\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">On Friday, I blindfolded my partner again&#8230; oops&#8230; not for fire prevention activities&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana,sans-serif;\">Life is short:&nbsp; thank a firefighter!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the last day of Fire Prevention Week here in the good ol&#8217; USA.&nbsp; Throughout the week, I have been doing a number of things related to fire safety.
