What happened?

\nI planned a ride with my motorcycle club for this past Saturday. It would have been fun and a nice time to get out with friends.<\/p>\n
However, Wednesday of last week, the weather weenies on TV were giving foreboding forecasts for Saturday’s weather.<\/p>\n
I paid closer attention. However, I have learned enough not to pay that much attention to media-hounds going after ratings.<\/p>\n
I turned to pros I know in the business. I work with them. I hear them talk and use the meteorological terms all the time. They show me the weather forecast models and the radar and create a point forecast just for me. <\/p>\n
By Friday, all of them were telling me that Saturday was going to be rainy by mid-day where I was planning to lead the ride. So being the cautious guy that I am, I canceled the ride and notified people in advance so they could make other plans.<\/p>\n
What happened? <\/p>\n
It did rain, hard, on Friday night. But by Saturday morning, the rain had stopped. <\/p>\n
I got out for my usual walk at dawn with my senior pal walking partner. It was extremely humid, but was not raining. It remained heavily overcast and looked like it was going to rain any second. That confirmed to me that I had made the right call to cancel the motorcycle ride.<\/p>\n
You know, if it were just me, I may have attempted to go for a ride, but if it began to rain, I could head home slowly and carefully. But when you are leading a ride, you have responsibility for the safety of others. I wouldn’t want their safety to be compromised by my attempt to lead a ride on curvy back roads in the rain.<\/p>\n
By 0930 on Saturday, the sun broke out. The rest of the day remained mostly cloudy, but it did not rain… all day… no rain. I blew it.<\/p>\n
To make matters worse, a few members of the club actually rode to the destination and posted photos of themselves there. They teased me about canceling the ride.<\/p>\n
Oh well… live and learn. Next time, I will thank my colleagues for their advice, but wait until the morning of planned departure to make the “go-no-go” decision.<\/p>\n
