{"id":4580,"date":"2013-04-15T04:00:35","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T08:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bootedmanblog.com\/?p=4580"},"modified":"2013-04-12T13:23:55","modified_gmt":"2013-04-12T17:23:55","slug":"enjoyment-in-dinosaurville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bootedmanblog.com\/?p=4580","title":{"rendered":"Enjoyment In Dinosaurville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One would think that if I have a personal huge and well-developed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bootedman.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">boot &#038; leather website<\/a> and a blog on its own domain as a subdomain of my website, that I would be among those who embrace technology and quickly adopt it.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, I am not afraid of or daunted by technology, however&#8230;<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n&#8230; I remain happy to be among those who:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>will not have a smartphone &#8212; I truly enjoy an &#8220;unthethered&#8221; life and refuse to get one. I save from US$800 to $1200 a year by *not* having one.  Imagine the boots I can buy with that amount of money?  Just shows my priorities are different from most folks. <\/li>\n<li>I still block texts on my cell phone &#8212; frankly, I would rather not have a cell phone at all, but in order to be a road captain in my riding club, I am required to have one. I seldom use it and often forget about it while it sits on the charger for days and days. Texting?  Sorry, plain old email works just fine. I do not want another device to have to deal with messages and a cumbersome method to read and respond (since my cell phone is a cheap clamshell, and I won&#8217;t pay for a bigger, more costly wireless device.)<\/li>\n<li>While the professional side of me is on Facebook, I use it to keep up with my family and friends, as well as strategically use it to support my professional association leadership role. BHD isn&#8217;t on FB and will not be. Not another account, another thing to deal with.<\/li>\n<li>BHD and &#8220;the real me&#8221; remains &#8220;twitless&#8221; or is that &#8220;twitterless&#8221; or &#8220;tweetless.&#8221; What a friggin&#8217; waste of time. I don&#8217;t really need to know when you&#8217;re going to take a piss. Thanks but no thanks.<\/li>\n<li>And yep, I still have a land-line, hard-wired telephone at home.  Who woulda thunk of such a contraption? Oh yeah, right, Alexander Graham Bell! Hmmm&#8230; believe it or not, we are not the same age, though I embrace his technology because it works for me&#8230; though sooner than later, will probably have to drop it due to the ever-increasing fees and costs that continue to spiral out of control.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Suffice it to say, while I embrace certain technology such as the web and blogosphere, I reject other technology that only bleeds my wallet dry.  I would rather save my money than make rich companies richer.  The convenience is not worth the expense to me.<\/p>\n<p>Same old, same old&#8230; I have written blog posts like this before.  My point-of-view hasn&#8217;t changed.
