I never recommended or wore “boot-cut” jeans. A “boot-cut” has a wider opening, which looked like old-style flared jeans. It never was necessary to have a wider leg opening to accommodate a traditional western boot. Straight-leg jeans would stack just fine.<\/p>\n
These days, most men (including me) choose tapered-leg jeans. Why?

A tapered-leg opening is slightly more narrow at the foot. When worn over a boot, it makes the boot stand out more, and the boot is more visible.<\/p>\n
That works particularly well with exotic skin boots, so the skin is also more visible.<\/p>\n
After all, if you’re going to wear boots, others should see them.<\/p>\n
That’s it! Simple enough.<\/p>\n
I choose either Levi 502s or Wrangler tapered-leg jeans when I wear my boots. I also get the jeans at a length that brings the jeans down to the boot vamp to rest upon the boots cleanly — not too long so they would drag on the floor in the back, or too short so they would look silly. As Goldilocks said, “just right.”<\/p>\n
